Heres a crash
Well This was the first gas plane I flew. I have been flying nothing but electric up until this. This plane was giving to me out of a guys attic. It had been sitting there for many years. After much time and funds later she was ready for flight once again. This bird flew great the first 4 flights. Heres the story of her 5th and final flight. As she went up and did a few passes everything was looking great. I had gotten great altitude and had started a big sweeping turn when she rolled to the left and then she was inverted and started a very rapid descend. Needless to say it hit the asphalt directly on the cooling head of the motor. I am not sure how fast she was going but there was about a 1/2 inch chunk knocked out of the asphalt and a small blue streak where the monokote grabbed the asphalt. I lost one of the servos and this was all that could be recovered. I ended up burning the remains as a sacrifice to the airplane gods. The reason I added the part about flying electric is I had forgot to recharge the receiver battery after its 4th flight. I thought gas planes ran on fuel. *grin*

My crash involved my Aerovan deciding it wanted to be an ornithopter for a while.........
Spot the following:
7 cell battery pack,
2 gunther props
sermos connectors from ESC
The nose of the plane was carved foam and ended up about a foot below ground level.

Most of my crashes are caused by thumb turbulance!

Sorry, the explanation is Japanese only.

Here're a few of mine. The next few pictures are of my scratch-built prototype flat-plate plane, whose wing was made from the horizontal stabiliser of a previously trashed electric glider!
This video shows the plane's first 'flight' - it was the first time it'd been that high off the ground ..... but then things went very wrong very quickly ....
Before - Ooh dear!!
After - Fixed!!!
A short while later .....
Before this next flight!
The best flight AND then worst crash of this plane
After that flight!
After some work on it ..... All fixed!
And now for something a little different. My first electric glider, the Early Bird:
And it's terminal crash:
I later got a second Early Bird, but one side of the wing ripped off in a dive ... I've still got the section of the wing that stayed attached to the plane ... the one that ripped off drifted over the village I was flying near and was never seen again! I have got footage of the wing-rip-off .... from ONBOARD the plane!!!
Death of my second Early Bird
The plane was a right off and it would've been cheaper to buy a new plane than to buy replacement bits for it ...
And now again, something different - an electric paraglider:
stuck in a tree! Got it out with a long pole made from lengths of bamboo!
I also had a ducted fan F-16 ... that was totalled on its maiden. Underpowered and launched too slowly - continuous stall for about 100m at which point I cut the throttle ... bad idea! No pictures sadly.
Ahh yes I've had my fair share of smashes!

Ohhh how could I forget! My two crashes with my Protech Unlimited!
Firstly, a nasty and totally unexpected tip-stall - I'd never experienced a tip-stall before, so this came as quite a surprise!
Bad tip stall at low-level!
And then we have the STUPID mistake of mine of ..... yep you've guessed ..... not checking the direction of movement of the control surfaces!
Ailerons are meant to move the other way .....
Very little damage fortunately .. on both occasions!

A-4 boo boo
Well.......the battery shifted and the rest is history.
She wanted to continue to climb but throttleing back saved the plane.
Full down elevator was needed, the throttle controlled the decent rate. She plopped down on her nose and one of the mains. I think the aluminum tubing took most of the punishment. That Mega 16/15-5 is a real power house. A little epoxy and a little more Velcro has fixed the bird and she is a hot one to fly now. I had to ditch the landing gear though.

Corr you were lucky that didn't end up as a pile of balsa sticks!
Glad to hear all is now well!
I find this thread most comforting - knowing that it's not just me that totals my planes!

I was trying to land and a couple of dogs wanted to chow downn my fiesler storch, fortunately I landed way ahead of the little (edited for language by moderator)
