any idea whats up with my charger?`

i have a gp poly charge charger and every time i try to charge my battery (a 3s 640 mah pack for a flat foamie) after it detects the cell count for about 5 mins it beeps like mad and the led flashes 3 times. it says in the manual that it means theres a "voltage error". what does this mean exactly because the intructions say nothing more about it. and what can i do to remedy this. i think it might be thinking that its an overcharged 2s pack because my speed control (electrifly c-12) has a low voltage cut off of 2.75v per cell and it cut the power on the last flight. so at 8.25v per cell (i know thats bad) could it possibly think its an overcharged 2s? anyways any help would be appreciated
thanks in advance

oh well when metered from the charge leads i get 10.5v which is odd because the low voltage cut off cut the power to my battery in flight.

No the resting voltage will be much higher than LVC as the voltage rebounds quickly. It is still "discharged" as when the load applied will drop quickly again.

That voltage is fine, it should charge. Have you tried another battery? Have you tried another port?

Does the charger work okay for other packs?

If may just be that the charger doesn't like the voltage because it considers it to be in a "gray" area. Perhaps if the charger isn't absolutely positive about the cell count, it won't charge.

if the battery is in the "grey area" is there anything that i could do to get it out of that so it will charge?

Yes but not with that charger. If you had one you could select a different battery type and a very low charge rate and do an attended charge for 10 minutes or so, to boost the voltage a bit. This obviously has to be an attended charge as you are defeating all the safety features of that charger.

But since the single Poly charge does not have other battery support, you will have to borrow one from someone....bummer I know.

What are you using for a power supply? I am guessing if its charging a 2s pack with no problems but giving a voltage error on a 3s that the power supply may not be putting out enough Voltage, or Watt's to keep the charger happy.

What Mike said.

You could use a nicad charger, or a 12 volt power supply and a resistor, or almost anything that will allow you to put a little more charge into the pack to get it up to 11 volts or so. DO NOT walk away from it while you are putting in this charge.

Yep what Dan said...

that 300mAh rate also needs to have a charge voltage output of 11v-12.4v or so. Otherwise it won't charge the battery at all. It is is much above 12.4v I don't know that I would use it either.

I would prefer a 100mA rate on the 640mA pack.......

allright well i did 5 mins on the 12v 300mah charger and it put the voltage right around 11.45v so hopefully the charger will detect it now
