No support for the 24mm R/C stuff? What kind of help did you need?

What I had wanted was some sort of commitment from that manufacturer to the project. After all designing a plane around their product you would think I could purchase the motors and casings at a minimal charge at least. I figured there would be alot of testing and therefor much cost in the testing alone. I did not ask for donations or anything but the ability to purchase their products at a wholesale cost to enable me to do the testing I needed at a nominal cost. Instead I was told to buy their products through my local hobby shop or online........ or sign up as a distributor and guarantee them HUGE stocking orders. I mean HHUUUGGEEEEE.
So in other words they have no interest in working with me. That was very disappointing. So I will design the plane and test it mostly with single use motors and it will have the ability to take the RCRM casing if someone wants to use them. But I am not going to design the plane around it nor will I be stocking and of their products. However - if I come across another manufacturer that offers a similar product I will talk with them to see if they would be interested in working with me.

That's not a surprise. $10-20K stocking orders from them is normal. Their terms are pretty crummy too from what I've been told by vendors. The product is established so I doubt they are willing to push anything for it. If you need motors for testing, I'd be willing to donate them if that's what it takes to get things going.

Scott,

Before you go pounding on Aerotech I suggest you first see if another manufacturer (at this point either Quest or Estes) will offer you discounted motors.

Designing it around the D5 might be the way to go anyway. D5s are about the same price as D7 reloads, and although maybe not quite as good as the D7 reloads (D7 basically has no chance of a fireball cato and is less sludgy on the exaust) for somebody getting into RCRGs from say RC gliders the advantage from a marketing perspective is they are not shelling out an additional $80 for a reload case. And the model is about the size of S8D anyway.

It's been obvious since they ditched the Phoenix that AT doesn't much care about rocket gliders. I'm a little surprised they keep making the RC reloads at all.

It's not that they don't care, they have a business to run and rc rGs are tough to make money on.

They (QUEST) also seems to have a 40% off sale at least once a year. I try to stock up on the D5's during that sale. if sign up for their mailing list (email) you should get the sale info when it comes again.
