i took my charger to work the other day and hooked it up to a power supply (it is a pretty nice one). with this power supply you can dial in volts and amps. it told me that my charger is only drawing .88 amps while charging a 2S 1350 mah lipo. as the battery charges the amps drop. i can almost guess when the battery is charged.
with this ifo, i'll only need to buy a power supply that draws 13 amps.

i'm covering the SQuiRT with solorfilm and i'm noticing that it takes A LOT of heat to get this stuff to work. the instructions say to use 100 C to tac and 150 C to shrink. i've got my iron set at 200 Degrees (i checked it with a thermometer), and it is working good. i don't want to melt it, but how hot can i go?
as a silkspan and tissue user, i am unfamilure with this kind of covering.
has anyone else ran into this or is this just normal behavior for polyester covering.

Wish I could help, I just bought a roll of Ultracoat today at Hobbytown USA in Mentor, they have doubled in size and now have a full rack of Ultracote! Yippeee. I will never use monokote again, It needs LOTS of heat. If the solarfilm film is not melting then I think you will be OK. Are you sure the 200 you measured was in Celsius? 100C is 212 F which may be why it is attaching OK.

maybe use a test piece to see how hot it can go? just throwin out suggestions..

heres another 'bit plane'. i should stop being cheap and get some real equiptment at some time . non proportional throtle and rudder do make for relaxing/easy fight though. not really on the workbench any more, but it dosnt deserve its own thread

anyways, this one is still a bit on the ugly side of things, but not a total ugly mug like the other one. i did manage to get my hands on some nice epp-ish packaging foam- about a 1 inch thick block, 12 by 8 or something, so i carved out the fuse from that. it uses the same equiptment as the other one, except it uses yer standard old magnetic actuator for the rudder. auw is just a touch over an ounce.

MELTING!!! no not yet.
one of the reasons for the temp question is, when i used coverlite, i could crank my iron all the way to 350 degrees and it didn't melt the covering. it did make it easier to shrink and push around.
also, is it better to use the iron for shrinking or hot air gun?

here's what i use for temp reading.

When I use nelsons lite film or solite I just use the iron, no heat gun and it shrinks just fine.

Well, we'll be able to chase each other around when you get her done. Toss in Don's Spitfire or P-51 and it will be a party.

i used an axi 2212/20, 8*6 apc E prop, 3s 1500, phx25, berg4 rx. roughly 16 amps. i haven't graphed it with the 8*6 E prop yet but the 8*6 sloflyer prop was around 15 amps.

what's on my workbench???

the littlest stick!!

maiden it tonight and VROOM....SPLAT (X3)!!

first attempt the prop flew off before it left my hand. second and third attemps it took every bit of full throttle and up elev. to just keep it in the air for thirty feet. this thing is a brick. i even cut off the landing gear. after third attemp, it hit a little hard on the bottom of the nose and ripped the firewall off. a prop saver would have been very helpful in this situation.
oh, well. could have been a lot worse.

i am pleased it did fly...sorta. it defenently needs more power. i might toss in the CDrom motor just to see what it'll do. (anyone have a brushless ESC they want to get rid of?)

i do have one question though. i'm using a 6 x 5 prop on a 180 geared 2.9:1 and i'm wondering if i should try another size prop?
