Fun Extra 40 from 3D Hobby Shop?

I've been wanting a plane to throw around when I want to try some new stuff out and not risk my larger balsa planes. I've had an AXI 2212/26 sitting around and this plane seems like it would go great with this motor. Anyone flown one yet? I'm not too worried about durability, as long as I can slap some epoxy or CA on there and be back flying in a few minutes that's all I care about, and for $20, who cares?. Will they handle any sort of wind, or is it better to fly in calm weather or indoors? Thanks for the help.

EDIT: Here's a link http://www.3dhobbyshop.com/detail.aspx?ID=311

For a windy-day flyer, on that motor, the 32" might be better, the wingloading will be higher. I like the 40" very much, though, it flies very slowly when I want it to, and gives me plenty of time to react. The construction is plastic-faced foam, a lot like the E-flight Ultimate. The pics on the website are of my 40" Sukhoi, I'm having a blast with it, flying on calm days outdoors.

I thought that plastic-faced foam sounded familar, seems like what was on the Tribute I had. I thought about the 32", but all I have is a 1600 mAh Lipo, which I think would be too much for that plane. I'm still thinking about ordering a 1320, but haven't decided yet. It's not really a big factor that it flies in the wind, I still have my big planes for that. I'll be putting my order in pretty soon. Hopefully it gets here quick, seeing as how were only about 5 hours away!

I think you'd like the 40", we'll ship all orders rec'd by 9am tomorrow in tomorrow's post. Also, take a look at our fly-in thread in "Electric Flight Events", we're doing a fly-in and raffle on Aug. 20.

I'll definately check it out.

EDIT: Also, have you had any experience with the GWS Lipos? I was looking at the 3S 1300 mah and its a little less the $20 cheaper then the TP. Is it worth it to just go ahead and pay the extra money for the TP?

The TP packs (esp. the Pro-lites) are worth the difference, IMO. The GWS packs cannot be abused at all.

That's what I figured. Man, I was hoping to not have to buy anything else for this plane, but it would be nice to be able to fly more then 15 min at a time. I'm gonna have to start dipping into the Fliton Extra 330/Saito 100 fund.

Well, the TP2000 ProLites are only 4.3 oz. per pack...

I mean having two packs and being able to get two 10-15 min flights back to back without recharging.

How many amps does your setup pull?

Never measured it before. The setup I have always had with the 2212/26 was a 11x4.7 slow fly prop, 1600 mah lipo, jeti 18 amp ESC. ESC and motor were barely warm after a 15 min flight, and the battery was warm, but IMO wasn't being overstressed at all. I had this setup on a HL Judge.

Got the kit in this afternoon. Parts all look good and hardware seems to be of good quality. So far I've got the airframe together except for the alerons, rudder and elevator. The airframe didn't take long at all to put together. Instructions aren't even necesary if you've put a foam plane together before(they aren't bad though). The worst thing about the assembly is having to bevel the control surface edges. I don't know why, but I absolutley HATE that part. Other then that, the rest of the plane looks like it should go together well. Will post pics and give flight report when it's finished. So far I would definately recommend this plane. Heck for $22 you can't go wrong.

You'll like it when you fly it, too. I've named mine "Dumbo" because it looks so weird flying slow right in front of you at 40" WS. You'll see what I mean.
