I seem to remember Pat teasing us with another runabout build, And there are a bunch of threads that Pat and othes have left hanging:

Scratch Building the Errica Tug

Update Pics of the 41' MTB

Calypso Billing Boats

The Dauntless' Progress

Fast Attack Craft pics

Warden Johnston -- the Alkatraz Launch

Canadian Patrol Frigate

Voith Schneider drives available (Umi's Fireboat)

Maybe we can shame some of these slackers into posting progress

Pat has been doing his usual high standard of work up in the scale electric forum lately!

Hey hey hey,... don't list me there....

I think "thething84" has made some great progress on the fast attack craft, however the progress is never posted in the same place twice, so it is hard to tell.

By the way, feel free to add to the list of "dangling threads." I'm sure I missed some.

You know I was going to make a corny crack that Capt Christo just didn't have "the drive" to post, and that Umi was probably too busy waxing her surfaces... but I didn't....

Oops.

Waxing surfaces!!

I wax the surfaces above the water line and use WD40 below the water line.
Old racing trick learned from Bernie Little. The Miss Budweiser had sprayers on each sponson.
Used it on my sport and tunnels when I raced.
The new pledge wipes make it very easy!

Jim

PS: Umi,got your back!!

umi, i know how that feels when your trying to watch a build and its popping up all over the place, but i wanna see it on the water. right now, I am running my fleet

the grey warship is undergoing a refit at the moment, all have been in the water with excellent results.

the white thing in the foreground on the carpet is a 7.2v 2000mah sub-C 6pack cell, that goes in all the boats except the yacht. the tug has a 700mah 6xAA pack but will at a squeeze take the sub C packs but the model has to be turned on before the battery is put inside the model as the battery sits on the switch, as it wont fit in the small box that takes the 6xAA pack

No, those other ships are small!!
I always thought the Graupner Neptune was 48 inches or something...
Or,...Maybe it is...THAT Najada is HUGE!!

(I don't need my back waxed, sun screen maybe, but not waxed. )

Nice upgrades on your Esprit Ghost! The Robbe Najade is a pretty good size!
LOA: 960mm ~38"
Beam: 300mm ~12"

(Now sitting on my hands to prevent any further off-topic and mildly inappropriate comments from further polluting this thread, particularly those comments having to do with the slippery slope we seem to be on due to the the recent introduction of sunscreen.)

Are you getting confused with the Sydney Star kit by graupner Umi, cos thats a long boat, somewhere around 1100mm ish snd of a similar style.

also Umi, thanks for the info on parallel wiring of nicads, I have ran Espirit several times with the batteries wired such. where as the lead acids were getting hot, due to current draw, the Nicads remain cool and easy to handle without being too hot, even when they have been run right down.

the lil neptun helped me get second place at a scottish steering event in May, a pic of the certificate is in the gallery under "electric boats".

Now as regards the Najade...

Thanks RGIN, yep, she's a beast alright, runs well too, given that her 12v motor is only having a diet of 7.2v as the 12v lead acids were a bit heavy. im trying to get a screen from robbe, to fit on the flybridge, as the original one broke.

the railings are put to my plan, they should go all the war around the fly-deck but with the pannel behind the arch being designed for the arch to be the other war around, i have re-done them, besides im gonna put a small inflatable there.

another change is the propeller, the kit came with a 40mm two blade unit, however purely for looks, it has a 3-blade 35mm brass propeller, (which needs polishing, its getting a little dull).

My second boat was an off brand deep V Miami vice kind or cigarette style scarab.
It ran on a single motor at 1.75-1 gear ratio. Nice quick mover till I clipped a rock and bent the shaft. I had to tear out all the running gear and substituted my own. It ran fine til a .60 outrigger came out wide, and put it under. I managed to piece it back together, but the weight change made it a bit slower. I ran it that way for several years with a water skiing "Gonzo" from the muppet show, and a Ninja turtle for a driver. The kids loved it. In the end I gave it to a gentleman at the pond that started coming down with his two boys. They had to take turns between the three of them running a tug he had built. I stripped down the boat to the motor, and the next time they showed up handed them the boat. I figured it would get good use.

I still have the water skiing Gonzo figure.
