For 3 cells, pls use GWS EP9050HD.

Yea, when I posted that I didn't realize the GWS lipo was only rated at 8c. I only run the 9050 prop on the GWS lipo. When I run my ThunderPower lipo I move up to the 1060 prop with no issues.

If going with all GWS equipment the 9050 is right on the money.

Only one problem with your set up. The static current draw will be 11.6 amps and the GWS 1300 mAh battery is an an 8C pack with a max amp draw of 10.4 Amps.

Try an APC 9x6 slowfly propeller to lower the amp draw to 10.3 Amps. With the 9x6 propeller the top speed will be about 40 MPH and the static thrust wiil be about 16 1/2 oz.

Mr Lin I hope the GWS R&D will produce a GWS 9x6 HD propeller to suit your new 400 powered Warbirds. When 3 Cells are used the GWS 10x6 will overload the GWS 1300 mAh LiPoly battery pack and the 9x5 HD limits the top speed to 32 MPH.

Mr Lin,
Sorry if this is getting annoying, but what of the GWS P-38, P-40 and FW-190 moulded models? There are quite a few people itching to get their hands on them(myself included). I take it they will also get the 400 motors?

Flying Pig & Keet.
response to post 55 & 56, sorry for delay.
My g'box ratio is 2.38:1 (GWS of course)
If I had to choose 1 pack between 9.6V 2/3AA KAN600 or an 8.4V 2/3A KAN1050?
I probably go the KAN1050 pack for the extra 2 mins of flight time.
I reckon a 9.6V KAN1050 pack would work fine in a Spit. 6 oz up the front in the 'worst case' scenario would result in slightly sluggish elevator control but that's not a bad thing with the spit. keep to the GWS CG specification & you should be fine.
You will need to carve a 'scoop' into the foam inside the fuze so the pack can slide into position but that's not a major problem really. I did all that after building the plane.
My current battery setup weighs 5.7 oz and the spit rolls like it's on rails with no fancy inputs other than aileron and a touch of elevator when she returns to level.
Hope the info helps you.

When EPS400C gear drive with 2 cells Li-Po with EP1060HD, they fly smoothly, without tail heavy.

While you may also use 3 cells Li-Po with EP9050HD, then, she become a hot shot!

Ken,

Thanks for your input because I changed my Spit to 400 with D box, and, as recommended by Mr Lin put on the 9050HD prop. I'm using two different 1300(non GWS) 3 CELL Lipos and they're both working pretty hard to deliver the amps, The Spit is a nice flyer, steadier than when she had a 350 and B box, but "hot shot" she ain't. I'd guess your top speed of 32 is about right and I'm not sure she couldn't do better than that on a 350 B ratio with a 20 amp capable 2 cell LiPo and a 9070 prop. Could you let me know what you think please?

Roger,

I'm currently using the 400 with the D box and I use the 9050 hd prop with the GWS 11.1v 1300 lipo (8c continuous discharge) and it does not even get warm. With my ThunderPower 11.1v 1320 lipo (13c continuous discharge) I up to a 1060 hd prop and it does not get warm at all with that. The thunderpower battery should have no trouble with the APC 10x7 SF prop that I had in my original setup. I've not actually tried that one on my plane though.

Well, nothing is new with the speed 400 motor on the GWS warbirds.

Few years ago, Since the birth of the very first GWS
warbird, the Zero... Millions of flyer out there already
used speed 400 motor on GWS warbirds.
A majority of flyers already had speed 400 class brushless
motor and Lipo for the best performance out of them though.

Maybe we should put two micro turbine engines on the GWS A10
to make the latest headline then

Thanks Lost,

I did actually start out with a 9075 APC (but Himself said it was the wrong one to use) - I'll keep tinkering - I've got a 1050 APC thin electric to try yet. My only 10" HD jobs are 1080 and I do think 8" pitch might be asking too much. Course, I could just spend some money on decent batteries........

I am a big fan of the GWS props. I buy them in packs of 6 and with the bolt thing on the back I don't have to worry about a prop adapter. I've found the GWS HD props to be the best for my planes. Once I go brushless I'll probably just start using the APC props. I know I can get a little more juice out of my thunderpower battery but I love how the thing flies right now and no sense pushing the battery harder if I don't have to

Roger, back in the late 1990s it was published in an English magazine that to run the Speed 400 series motor at more than 10 amps resulted in a lowering of efficiency and no real gain in preformance. In the figures below this lowering of eficiency shows. Make your own choise but I would sugest a 1700-1800 mAh battery to give a good duration. The figures below are with an E-Tec 1700 mAh battery. Note that the E-Tec 1700 gives a higher amp draw than the GWS 1300 on the 10x7. This indicates that the GWS 1300 was on its limit.

APC 9 x 7.5 Propeller
Motor Amps = 11.1
Motor Volts = 10.3
MotGb Ef(%) = 43.2
Thrust (oz) = 15.6

At Top Air Speed = 45.0 MPH
MotGb Ef(%) = 49.5
Time (m:s) = 11:23

APC 10 x 7 Propeller
Motor Amps = 11.9
Motor Volts = 10.3
MotGb Ef(%) = 38.3
Thrust (oz) = 17.2

At Top Air Speed = 44.0 MPH
MotGb Ef(%) = 51.0
Time (m:s) = 12:26

Mr Lin, you are producing theses new EPS-400 powered Warbird but you are not making propellers to allow the best preformance to be gained from them and so forcing people to use another brand of propeller. I would have included figures for GWS props if there were ones that gave similar preformance to the APC props.

Can P51D slope glider parts be used with motorized GWS P51D?

I have been flying my GWS P51D (350 motor) for months and have been very satisfied. Now my fuselage, wings and elevator are damaged after lots of epoxy she's getting heavy and distorted. I've had hours of fun flying her. Can I buy a P51D slope glider and put my motor, gear box, servos, reciever and ESC in the slope glider. Does the P51D slope glider kit have the same fuselage, wing, elevator, and decals as the motorized P51D planes?

Thanks for any advice in advance,

Buy a GWS P51D slope glider version is the cheapest way to get all the necessary parts.

Great deal!
