Battery Experts: Sanyo KR-1100AAU vs KR-1100AEL ?

Which cell will provide more current for e-flight? According to Sanyo, the 1100AAU's are 24g/cell, while the 1100AEL's are 28g/cell, so maybe the AAU's provide a better power/weight ratio, if discharge is sufficient? mtayl says his daughter likes the "yellow pack" 8x1100 best for flying her plush pilots in her Wingo, but which cells are in the pack? I'll be using my Soarstar for aerial photography and would like to get the best pack for the purpose.

Since we're on the topic, I understand the Sanyo 600AE cells would make a better flight pack than any AA-sized cells (AAL for example), correct?

Last question... Sanyo HR-AAU 1650 NiMH vs. HR-3U 1600 NiMH. I see almost no difference in size or weight, only 50mAh more and no button on the AAU. Which would be better suited to e-flight (provide more current/less internal resistance)?

Sanyo cells

Heres some internal impedance info from the Sanyo cell data tables:


KR 1100 AAU - 19 milliohms
KR 1100 AEL - 9 milliohms
600 AE - 9.5 milliohms
AAU 1650 NiMH - 25 milliohms (capacity 1500 - 1650mAH)
HR3U 1600 NiMH - 25 milliohms (capacity 1500 - 1600 mAH)

Given the choice - I would choose the KR1100 AEL.

The data are along the lines of what I had in my head, I just couldn't seem to find it. Thanks for digging that up, Neal.

What's odd to me is that I've seen a lot of praise for the performance of the 1100AAU cells here on ezone, yet I could find very little about the 1100AE cells. With their lower internal impedance, I'd expect more folks would be using the 1100AE cells having, I assume, a better discharge curve.

My only guess at the reason is that at 24g/cell vs. 28g/cell, an 8x1100AAU pack would be 32 grams lighter. Do you folks prefer the 1100AAU cells because they have a better power/weight ratio? Anyone have any experience comparing the two?

I like the 1100aau because for a 2 ounce weight penalty I can double flight times compared to 600ae . To go to the 1100ae would add 1.25 oz. Then it is only a small step to 1400ae at 9.6 oz per pack.

I just bought some 1100AAUs to replace 8 cell 600AE packs. They are only 5 or 6 grams heavier. I figured it would only be about 1.5 ozs more weight for double the capacity. As previous posters have stated it looks like the weight is the influence here. The type of models these batteries are put in can probably tolerate a 1.5 oz weight increase but not the weight increase of the 1100AEs then you might as well go to the 1400s.

I tried CP1300s a 4.6 oz weight increase over my 600 packs. The plane flew(Wattage Impress) but it seemed heavy. I've tried the 1000 Radio Shack car battery packs and liked the duration increase and the plane seemed to perform on them as well as the 600 although they did get a little hotter than the 600s. The 1100AAUs ought to be even better, I hope.

So it is the weight that's keeping you guys from using this packs. Makes sense when you put in perspective with 1400AE's. Thanks for the responses.

So, does anyone have any use for 1100AE's? What ships are you using them in? Anyone have a discharge plot for the 1100AAU's vs. 1100AE's?

In regard to the NiMH packs, it looks like the only difference between the Sanyo HR-AAU 1650's and the HR-3Us 1600 cells is 50 mAh. Do you guys have a preference, other than button/flat top?
