Cool
Let's Play Fantasy Island

OK, let's play pretend, shall we? ( I had a lot of fun writing this)

You scratch off that lottery card, that quick pick game or whatever, and you win big, but not too big.

You pay the taxes on the prize, pay some bills, you buy some gifts and determine that you want to treat yourself to some new RC equipment.

No banking for the future. You got to spend it now. The budget is $5K and no one is unhappy that you are going to spend it.

What's it going to be?

Here's my list.

Competition Thermal Duration Sailplanes

3M full house competition sailplane - Total $1100
http://home.att.net/~CASA/Mantis/Mantis_page_Info.htm
Mantis - Fuse+Wing, tail = $600
Digital servos, Receiver, , Battery = $500

3M RES - Total $1000
AVA $660
http://kennedycomposites.com/
Digital servos,receiver, battery $340

F5J Speed 400 competition - $900
Hyper 2 ME with Speed 400 competition motor system $550
http://www.nesail.com/detail.php?productID=3255
Servos, receiver, etc. $350

Good Time Slope Planes

Eraser 60 - $125
Servos/receiver/battery/locator $145

F 20 Tiger Shark EPP Slope Plane - $230
http://www.californiasailplanes.com/planes/epp/F20.html
F20 Tiger Shark $110
Servos/receiver/battery/locator $120

OK, that's $3500 on Thermal and Slope planes. Plenty of Fun here!

Let's add some small Electrics for fun.

Brushless Parkflyer

Read my note above. You already bought her a big diamond ring, new car and trip to some exotic spa where she will be pampered for a week ....

She is very pleased that you are FINALLY doing something for yourself, you wonderful man!

I would have to say, i'd take all that 5K and build up the hill up the road(its un-woned so I dont have to buy it first) with some compacted dirt and make it into a slope!!

Then I'd go buy a bundle of FFF and get to sloping!

Or I'd get a 1/4 scale Nimbus 4, scale it out, buy a trailer and a nice little scale Cessna 180(scaled out as well) and go on a raod trip to fly-ins accross the mid west(where all the best thermals are...proof is in the picture below when a tent got lifted on a calm, sunny day!)with my g/f as tow pilot!

I just saw 'war of the worlds'. Are you sure that this isn't the beginning of the invasion.

I am Mr. RC, your host. And this is my faitful assistant, Upstart.

While you are on the RC Fantasy Island remember that there are no problems or issues. The sun is always out, the wind is always from the right direction and the lift is eternal.

While there can be crashes, there is no need to fix, unless you wish to. We will take care of everything.

If you land below the ridge, don't worry, upstart will be standing there with a new plane and will run to get your other plane.

If you winch up for thermal hunting, you will always get a great zoom and the wings never flex too much.

There are no glitches, not interference and no shootdowns. Your channel is always clear!!!

However - LI Polys must still be handled with care, charged at the proper rate and stored properly. They will still burn up your plane, blow up your car and burn down your house. You will then have to sleep in the open and you will have to walk to the slope or thermal field.

However, when you arrive, your radio will be charged and your plane will be waiting. Upstart will have it all for you.

So dream of your new fleet, your new radio, your new charger.

Fly, fly .... fly!

I'm a young guy, so I'd plan for the future.

I'd take the 5K, and buy a bunch of quality servos and receivers. Never seems you have anough of those anyway. Then, I'd buy a bunch of composite materials for Drela designs. Like enough spar materials to build 3 or 4 more Bubble Dancers and Allegros (I have already build one of each). And then some composite materials to build a handfull of Supras.
Of course I'd also have to order a bunch of tailbooms from tailboom.com. Then, I'd be set for building for a number of years.
