Need Help With Dumas Chris-craft Kit

I just purchased the Dumas '38 Triple Cockpit Kit. What electric motor and speed control should I use? Has anyone built this kit? I would appreciate any help or advise. Thanks

FIrst, check the sticky titled "Past Reiews and Build Threads". Read the following threads:
Dumas 19' Racing Runabout
Dumas Typhoon, kit review
Dumas Chris Craft Utility
Fiberglass for Mahogany Hulls

The Dumas triple cockpit barrel back assembly is very similar to the three Chris Craft threads listed above.

One recommended motor is the Mack Products 2500-2515 unit; it has twin motors geard to a single shaft. I use a similar unit in my USCGC TAMAROA, and it has more than enough power and speed. I would recommend a Vantec 411 ESC.

I've got that same kit myself but haven't started building it. However, I don't think the choice of motors is any big deal because anything about that size should work fine.

Bob, A fellow club member here is running the tripple cockbit b-back with a Dumas 6V high speed motor on 7 nicads with excellant results. It's not all that fast, but it sure looks good on the water.

Tower Hobbies recommends an 05 sized motor, and offers the "Trinity Monster Horsepower Stock Pro 27 turn brushed motor to be powered by a 6-cell 1500mah Nicad pack. It is a racing motor for cars and trucks.

They recommend the Traxxas Nautica speed control, which is standard on the Traxxas Blast boat -- but that is a forward only speed control.
