SSDC--Incom T-65C-A2 X-Wing Starfighter
A long, long time ago, in a workshop not-so-far away.....I think it was in the 1980's I started on this idea and got as far as a 24" balsa fuselage with s-foil operation. This was years before the introduction of EPP. Now I have a reason to take this baby all the way!
My plan is to build an EPP prototype, fly it, then once successful, move on to large scale glass. I just might enter the prototype in the foamie category. The large scale version will have operable S-foils and other surprises (don't want to get too far ahead of myself here). Stay tuned....... |

Oh man I always wanted to make one of those. Well at least you don't have to worry about somewhere to put the nose weight!

What's an S-foil?
I'm thinking this plane would be draggy because of two wings, but I'll be very interested in this. I always thought a biplane would be cool except it would be too slow because of drag, but if you can make this work, I'm sure a biplane would work too. Adrian |

Codezilla, the x-wing pilots and tech specs refer to the wings as s-foils. "Lock s-foils in attack position." I realize that this will not be a fast sloper, this is an attempt to take a fictional spaceship and turn it into a fantasy PSS design with technical innovations. It will be my attempt to build it along PSS lines and keep it within scale of its original design.
The ship that was seen in Episode III woud be just too easy to get to fly, I need more of a challenge! Keeps people off my coat-tails sort-of-speak. Wait until you see the documentation i have, there is a whole lot of junk that will have to be sculpted into the fuselage and wings. This is not going to be easy. |

How about the Naboo Royal Cruiser? This is one of my favorite ships from the last batch of Star Wars. The sleek, shiny metal flying wing, four engine pods with the bridge up and back. Not a real technical challenge, but it's pretty durn cool.
Apparently, it works with edf 55s. http://www.lecun.org/hobby/naboo.html The X-Wing could be fast(er) if you built it so that when the wing is in the closed position it creates a good plank airfoil. Play some smoothing tricks with the draggy portions. Planks don't tend to be slow. It would really be a feat if you could get it to fly in both closed and open positions, like thermal and speed trim. I too have contemplated building an X-wing for sloping. I even spent some time discussing it with Carl one night at our ISR monthly meeting. Good luck.
P.S. Did you table the Bugatti clay plug build? |
