50 foot Big Floyd

Hi

Last school year I built and flew the 24 foot wingspan Pink Floyd. The thread is in foamies. I want to build something larger. Why not really large? Double the Pink Floyd would be 48 feet, I might as well add 2 feet and make a 50 foot version.

I'm starting this thread to get some input on a couple things. The big obstacle on this one will again be the power system. I'm thinking of a multiple motor setup.

Anyway, here are the specs on the Pink Floyd:
24 foot wingspan
14 feet long
20 lbs
Hacker C50XL

Here are some rough estimations on the Big Floyd:
50 foot wingspan
29 feet long
60 lbs

This is only the ideas stage. The plane will probably fly eventually, but it is going to take a while.

The construction will be mainly a wooden structure with a fanfold foam covering.

Will this be the largest wingspan rc airplane? NASA & Boeing dont count..

Ideas? Comments?

-Hans

Right on, Hans!! Check out Inner Demon.com for great multiple motor gearboxes. My friend Dan Redfern of Model Machining Service is the designer and manufacturer of them, very high quality too. His latest takes 4 Hacker C-50s and flies his 46% Ultimate biplane very nicely. Who gets the first ride?

There's got to be a world record somewhere in a project like that. Good luck!

I thought of a little problem this morning. If it is simply a 210% version of the Pink Floyd, I wont be able to reach the wings when I'm on the ground.. It might make field assembly harder.

Because of the dihedral? If you have to, you could take out the dihedral and use ailerons.

Ha... no kits for the 24 footers The 24 footer is for sale though... If someone wants to buy it for a couple hundred dollars, all the money will go straight into this bigger one.

There will be dihedral or polyhedral in the 50 foot wing. I dont want to use ailerons. It will be big and floaty, probably even slower than the 24 foot version. If I could get the whole thing to weigh 50 lbs, it would be a 4 oz/sq ft wing loading...

I might start working on the main wing spar today.
