Just picked up an Astro 109.. DOn't wanna burn down my house. ;)

OK guys..

I'm about to charge some packs...

Lipo's should be charged at ~1c of their maH right?

So a 2480 pack should basically be charged at 2.5 amps?
and a 2100 pack should be basically charged at 2.1 amps?

Regardless of #s#p it's the total maH that determins the rate of charge right?

Like if I had a 4S2P 6000 I could charge at 6 amps?

I just don't wanna burn down my hacienda..

You got it! And your going to like your 109.

I am sure you know this, but watch the first 3 minutes through phase 1 when charging. Make sure the correct number of cells is selected for phase 2 where # cells are locked in. I have NEVER had a problem with a wrong cell selection, but others have. And never charge an already charged pack! Always start the charge with 0 amps selected and then turn up the amps to 1C after noting the pack voltage. Also, LiPo packs don't need peaked ... ever ....

Love my 109. Just ordered another for a new EP flyer (formally glow) who wants to go LiPo from the start (over all my concerns about a newbie starting out with LiPo ) .

[edited] Actually you should say rather LiPo packs can be charged "UP TO" 1C . 0.5C would work just fine ... just take longer . That said, I always charge at 1C . So far that has worked great for me .

Sorry for hijacking your thread, my bad.

If lets say that 95% of Li-Poly errors are started by user error (setting the charger to Ni-Cd, not selecting the correct number of cells, or abusive treatment), why would you suggest a newbie learn bad habits from Ni-Cds before switching to Li-Poly?

Wouldn't encouraging a newbie to build up a large collection of Nickel cells that he can't afford to give up when eventually making the switch to Li-Poly be the worst possible outcome from a safety standpoint?

Once again my apologies, just feeling anti-social for some reason tonight!!!

I really should change that name, someone gave it to me 12 years ago in a different kind of forum. I just wanted to ask a quick question here a few years ago and used the name I have. Still here, go figure!

I have found that sometimes its quicker at a bit less than 1c.

This allows the Astro to stay in phase 2 a bit longer...

AF 109 Very Effective LIPO 1C Fast Field Charger

SLOW CHARGING

But if U want even better duration and full power performance, there is no other better way than a FIXED REGULATED VOLTAGE SUPPLY CURRENT LIMITED THRU A 12VDC 50W HALOGEN BULB charging at around 200-1000 ma for at least 2 hours or more

Even works on NMHIEs

I use a surplus switcher

BEST WAY IS STILL THE CHEAPEST WAY, Imho

Competent adults will be just fine with LiPos as long as they follow all of the safety rules. Even competent adults occasionally make mistakes. The safety rules are designed to provide backup for those occasional mistakes that we all make.

Hall Woo has a policy taken out with God Inc. As part of the premium he gets divine protection from folly of all sorts.
