Nestled into the north-eastern corner of the city of Sunnyvale, CA., is a 70 acre public park called Baylands (37°24'42.95"N 121°59'45.37"W for all you Google Earth types).

There exists amongst the very friendly group of flyers, a brotherhood that knows no boundaries. And, on any given weekend, these flyers converge upon the 'meadows' to fly and to share their excitement in this hobby of ours.

Recently there are plans for a brotherhood Slow Stick competition that includes a 1 hour speed building contest, hovering and a type of all-up-last-man-down contests.

I was able to stop by for a short spell and to get in some A.P. practice as a few of us will be providing some aerial coverage of this event. I was able to get a few shots of the soggy field...I'm still cleaning off the mud from my gear! I also managed to take some in-flight video but because of the gusty winds, I'm afraid you all might get seasick from watching it! <-- color of nausea...

This one is a couple years old but is my most interesting shot to date. The plane and camera are also shown. It is a mosaic of 2MP pictures. I hope to do it again with an 8MP camera.

The Stanford Linear Accelerator Center is a particle physics and xray photon science research center which is prominent on google earth and other satellite photos.

I found a new place to fly, off the Bay. Pretty open in the weekends.
Lots of grassy area to fly, they do have security patroling the area. No one pays attention to me when I was flying the SS. There are a lot of lamp poles there...

Hi Newbrian, I wish I could say that my ability to take (good) shots extends beyond the fortunate. Out of nearly 200 shots, these were the best of them...so much for a hit-to-miss ratio

Hi Steve, that is a nice mosaic! My daughters' science club had a recent outing to your facility. All these years driving past it on I280...I never realized how big that complex really is! Sure, one can get a fleeting glimpse of the long tunnel-like structure where the freeway crosses over it but all of the other support and science buildings...wow!

Okay Brian, I know where Oc_ _ _ _ is. Nice pictures, now how in the world did you manage to get some sun-n-blue sky?

There's actually some interesting fishing in that slough to the left. It's my understanding that the area across the waterway in your third picture is slated for development, kinda like Pete's Harbor, only BIGGER.

And, IIRC, that quarry belongs to GraniteRock...possibly their concrete recycling center?

I think it was a few Sundays(got it? sunday 3-19) ago, just my luck, about 2 pm. It was windy ( for the Slow stick), see the water in the photos. I guess we have not had a good day like that since then.

I will go back there and take more photos of the marina. I plan to go to Pete's harbor and see what is there.

NewBrian, any new interesting place we can go shooting? I guess we have to wait for a good weather day. How's weather up in Sac?

the salt ponds on harbor drive early in the morning, the reflection is outstanding

The time stamps on mine are from 13:55 to 14:05.

Don't forget to change the clock on the camera!
