New Hyperion Z30 Series motors from ACW

Hey guys,
Anyone tried one of these? They look really good, great price and coupled with the new Hyperion ESCs it looks like a decent large BL setup can be had for under $200!
Anyway, here is the link for the motors
And ESCs (scroll down the page)

They sure do look nice.
With all the information they give in their data sheets, it shouldn’t be hard picking a motor.

Aircraft-World should be highly praised for doing such a fantastic job with their data sheets. If I had a wish list for doing it right, they just nailed it!

Nice Job ACW!

Whoa, those motors look wicked. Aircraft-World always says it the way it is, so you can be sure these motors will perform

Ditto! Dave and all the crew do a great job and I will buy from them anytime!
Now who's got something to put one of these in?

I've got one coming, HP-Z3025-08, Z-3025 8-Turn 985Kv. It should be here in a couple of days... I am going to put it into an nesail samba, will report on the results.

Me like! I've been salivating over these motors for the past few days. Hope they turn out as good as they look. Seems like a respectable Axi 2826 replacement at last.

The Z3025 08/Titan 50 A ESC combination I tested yesterday actually came out slightly better than the A-W figures on APCE 10 * 5 and APCE 12 * 6 eg 8370 rpm on the bigger prop. with 10 volts and 40.4 amps. compared with 8010 rpm, 10.1 and 36.4 amps.

Haven't put the outrunner on the dyno yet, but did a direct comparison with a Mega 22/30/2 geared 2.4 : 1 on the 12 * 8 prop and got identical efficiency at these power levels. The Z3025 is about 100 gms lighter and much better priced than the geared Mega. It is also much quieter, but it sure looks very strange having such a big prop on such a small direct drive motor!

It does seem magical that something so small can turn such a large prop. It just doesn't "feel" like it should be possible.

...ALL e RC has these motors in stock now, too, along with the 50 and 80A ESCs. I'm thinking or putting the Z3013-14 in my Corona heli as a direct replacement for the Axi 2820.. almost 2 oz. lighter, less current, same Kv.

Hmmmmmm, those figures sound great. Especially when compared to the mega. I think I am tempted to find a 10 cell pattern/sport/3d plane to put one this in in the near future. Any ideas
Thanks

The figures don't seem that great to me. Here's the table from A/C worlds site with another column added. This is using the Hyperion prop constants and calculation method to give efficency.

The price is very good and to me the performance matches what you pay.

The advertising claims a peak eff% of 85%, I'd like to see where that is acheived.

The APCE 12 * 6 prop. stands out as an anomaly, so I re-tested it, expanding range to 8670 rpm - previously, the maximum rpm were 6930. When I first started testing the APCE series, I was hoping they would have a standard power factor and a number of them were close to 3.2 which was published. Now, however, I use the power factor which gives the closest fit over the whole rpm range and on re-test, this worked out at 3.38 with a prop constant of 0.243.

At the higher rpm, this has a pronounced effect on efficiency and both my Mega and the Z-3025-08 calculate out at 79-80 % using these figures at 400+watts input. I consider this level of efficiency to be excellent value for money. Now I just have to re-test the 10*5 to see why it also yielded a lower efficiency figure, and then re-publish with all the recent adjustments.

BTW, I have just noticed mention of a 12 * 8 prop earlier - this should have read 12 * 6
