Batteries for GWS 50

Ok I need help deciding what batteries I need t have good consistent performance from this fan. Any help is apreciated...

8 300 mah NiMH work great for me, but I don't fly on full throttle for much of the flight after take off (no need). Most flights are 4.5 -6 minutes.

The Sanyo 110 mah NICAD will provide the most power, but flying time is short, i mainly use the GP NIMH cells 350mAh, good power on 7 cells and a duration is 3 min something, mainly full power (it was windy).

This is what I got from my tests. I did not yet get any chance to check it in real fly condition unfortunately.

8 sanyo 600 NiCAD ( not for fly for test purpose only ) it draw 5,3 Amp. @ 54 Watt

8 panasonic 300 NiCAD I got 4,8 Amp. @ 46 Watt

8 250 NIMH it draw 3,8 Amp. @ 37 Watt.

But as I mentioned, never had a chance to see its fly performance...

The Fan Tastic Models guys are having good luck with 7 cell 150 mah "N" cell packs on the EDF 50 in the F-86 and MiG-15 kits. Run time is about 2 minutes with good power. The guys tried a 7 cell 350 pack, but the extra oz of weight is not great for the little jets.

In a fairly foolish experiment at Toledo, we hooked up an EDF-50 to a 3 cell Lithium polymer battery pack of about 500 mah at the battery vendors booth. He had a test rig set up there and the initial static load, fan held in hand, was over 7 amps, dropping soon to 6.8 amps. (The vendor swore that his cells could handle the load, but it kinda scared me) We ran it about 30 seconds and then disconnected. The motor had a very interesting smell and was pretty darn hot, but seems to have survived, for now.

Well, there is no big deal just to use the small nicads...you have a really good designed model if it flies on 7 cells NIMH 350, it will certainly have a better performance with the 150 NICADS, but the flighttime is longer....

The 8 Cell 300 NiMH seems to put out for me around the same voltage and amps as 7 150 nicads. I'm not sure about longevity though for the 300 packs.

Thanks guys,

I will probably go for a nicad pack for the higher power output.

The airplane will be the X-31 adn the kit maker uses the 8 270ma nihm setup and it performs well enough.
