Pulled out my old foam/balsa Mega 16/15/4 powered Flanker, and want to refurbish it into a different model as I want to use my Irate 2600 Lipo's against the 10 CP1300's I used before.

I want to keep the motor mounted at the rear as before, but with the LiPo's,it may be tail heavy.The LiPo's are wider than the CP pack,so will need a wider fuse.
Looking around, the SU-34 seems to fit the requirement, so am having a go at cutting the nose off to the wing leading edges and grafting a new nose on.Will also mould a clear removable canopy to get to the battery pack.
The whole airframe is in need of a cosmetic clean up, but that's the beauty of using blue foam,just hack out and replace damaged areas.

It has been smashed a bit before when on one flight my HS servo decided to die in flight controlling a taileron with inevitable consequences!

This model is a veteran of maybe 200 plus flights and am well used to handling it.

It flies beautifully, but there was always a trim problem due to one of the tailplanes being slightly out.I was too lazy to correct it, so lived with it.
However,I might as well alter it now, as the rest is being rebuilt.
The fuse is all blue foam, and the wings/tail parts are built up from balsa.

I also plan to install canards coupled to the elevator for some possibly interesting manoevering capabilty!

Not the most attractive Flanker derivative, but it has a kind of ugly beauty about it (if you know what I mean!)

Stage one of the manifestation,I printed off a drawing from the 'net,enlarged it to the same length (after cropping the nose section I am going to replace)
here shown overlaid sans the canards.
Worked out exactly right,so should work well. Shaping and carving next..

Have alreadt removed the tail parts for stripping and recovering,plus some fuse material.

New nose!
Cut,surformed and rough sanded it today. Still needs hollowing,splits along the horizontal line (not sure if it shows in the pics)
Managed to incorporate the bulged seam look the real one has.

Anyway,am happy with it so far,just need to fine tune the fit to the (sawn off) fuse.

Hope I can complete the nose tomorrow.

As much as it looks like you've had your money's worth out of her already, a new lease of life is just around the corner.

I may well attempt on eof these out of depron in the future, so I'm watching with interest.

Ask Darren about the right CG.
He has been helping folks in this forum
to find the righ CG for any SU 34/35
with canard on the fuge.
Darren is one of the Sukhoi Gurus like you

I had put the model to 'bed' so to speak as i had got involved in other projects.Funny really. I was just looking at this the other day as I finished boarding out my attic,and was thinking that I really must finish it!

Here is a video of this model flying with the old setup of DD Mega 16/15/4 6x4 APCE,and 10 CP1300 heavy round cells.
Still went very nicely!
