Hyperion CAP232 - aircraft-world.com

Hey Guys,

Anyone have any experience / opinions / thoughts on the Hyperion CAP232 that aircraft-world have? Seems a bit more 'pattern/sport' than 3D, but looks like it would take the same kind of power system as the Jumpin' Jack et al.

I couldn't find ANY reference on the search function, which is VERY un-eZone !!!

Hi Smitfa
Yesterday I see this plane and made a search (Google). I found it was designed by "Air Killer". There are a bigger version. The mini was powered by Axi 2212/24 or /26.
The plane looks well made, so I ordered one yesterday (the combo with motor, ESC and gearbox). Was Shipped today.

Ha !

Mine was shipped today as well! I already have a Hyperion 2213 to put into it! Be good to see the difference between the geared set-up you have and the outrunner I have! Lets report out findings here!

Hyperion CAP 232

Hello friends,
I am George from Greece.
I recieved mine today and the only thing I have to say is that it is a beautiful made airplane. I will put hyperion 2213/20 or I can wait a little more aircraft world to order hyperion 3005 which have better torque compared with 2213/20 and it is almost 20 grams heavier. I have also an axi 2212/20 but I have installed it to my Fliton JJ with an APC 9X4.5 intended as a pattern airplane. CAP 232 is not intended as 3D because of its structure. It has almost full span ailerons but they are very small campared with these of Fliton's.
Anyway I strongly believe it is a great looking airplane and I look forward to fly it !!!

Hi
I just order mine today. I'll use a hyperion 22/13/20 or an axi 22/12/26.

Same here! Like George just said, I got mine yesterday and the build quality is VERY good. Certainly one of the best ARTF's I've seen. It has been built lite though, not like the crazy-8 I've been flying recently.

I also have the 2213/20 and plan on using Polyquest 1800 3s packs in here. They're a bargain for aircraft-world at the moment.

I plan on building this, and flying it on Tuesday evening

I maidened this last night. I left the landing gear off to start with. I also needed to 'add' a fraction of lead to the nose, even with the pack pushed as far forward as possible! This may be the motor I am using, the 2213/20. It wasn't a great deal, maybe 10 grammes or so. Another interesting point, I weighed the cowling (lovely btw), and it came up at 22 grammes! That's quite a lot I think, looks wonderful though! AUW was 530 grammes ready to fly.

I checked all the throws, blah blah, dialed in a healthy amount of expo, blah blah. Chucked it in the air....... "My God!!! Can you say twitchy"!!! Flew a couple of very slow circuits, didn't really do a lot as the control were sooooo twitchy. Anyway, I thought I would throttle up and "BANG", the prop jumps off the model, I glide her in.... and boy does the model glide! I touch her down with no worries....

Here's what I learned from that first flight:

1) Don't put the wrong expo in !!!! It dailed in 30% POSITIVE expo! No wonder she was twitchy!!!!

2) You don't need a great deal of aileron throw to make her turn, so keep it down for the first couple of flights.

3) If using an out-runner, and using the out-runner motor mount included in the kit, build it strong! I would suggest building with epoxy, I used cyno to start with, and ..... Turned out the torque of the motor when throttling up was enough to break the cyno bonds on the motor mount, the prop then struck the lovely cowl and snapped the motor shaft (that's two shafts in two flights on this motor)! I think the motor shaft snapping actually saved the model from any serious damage, so I am happy to spend 4 dollars on another shaft, and chuck it into the air again.

All-in-all, that initial 3 minute flight was very impressive. I will go into the next flight with the confidence to know that model fly's very well. It glides very well, and tracks great. I can't comment on any other aspects of it's flight envelope yet, but I hope to be flying her within a week (just need more damned motor shafts) !!!!

I will get some photo's this weekend hopefully!

Thanks,
Alex.

Hi
I've done some flights this afternoon.
AXI 22/12/26, polyquest 3S 1500, APC 10/7
It fly very well, and fast. I can't explain you the flight because of my poor english but you'll see the video :
http://grenadeindoor.modelisme.com/video/capaw2.mp4

I've done some mofifications :
The servos are not in the tail because of CG and I put 30g in the nose.
The canopy can be removed to put the accu (no need to remove the wing)

I reinforced the motor mount with balsa
I don't understod how to use horns (the shape is strange) of the kit so I made new ones with plywood

Take care of the CG , the cap is very sensible if centered on the rear
The throws for pitch don't need to be important.
