Derf:
I wish I had a C geared setup to compare to a D geared setup static.
That would be a sweet setup for sure tho.

Actually got to try my Cosmic Flyer for a bit. The story of it's maiden flight is here:
http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showthread.php?t=365316
Nothing too big, but it seems like the weather is against me.

Still intend to get a Beaver eventually, but I'll have to save up money for it and decide whether to build it myself (and possibly screw things up) or have TallFlyer assemble it for me.
Here's a Beaver question: Assuming you get a GWS Beaver and appropriate GWS flight pack, do you have to do any soldering to hook up electronics like the ESC and stuff, or do they come with connectors already soldered on?

Still hanging in there.

Heck, I looked all over the place for your guys. Hey Sam - Where did you get the picture of my plane taking off? Did a pretty good job on it, eh?
Right now, I'm in the middle of a 6 day blizzard. White Beavers don't get along too well with snow, so I'll be sitting this one out.
Got a watt meter coming in the mail. Should make a good weight to balance the plane. Not sure what it does, yet, but I'm thinking I'd better get out the old slide rule and start learning some new formulae.
Happy flying, everybody.

Fly your Beaver to work. Here's how:
You're out there in the territory of The Big E. What do you want to bet that you can't put that Beaver in your hand, Tx in the inside pocket of your coat, and start walking about 50 feet before somebody pulls over and says, "Hey, nice plane you got there. Need a lift?"
Remember, in our hobby, creativity counts.
By the way, how's the car?

No Art, I'm much too serious to consider comedy. I'm a wallflower and am incapable of humor. An introvert, but also an infracaninophile, which is why I like Brutus' effors so much.
And, I might add, it appears we're from the Golden Age of Writing. Maybe I write funny stuff? No, that's can't be it. Amish are radicals compared to my lifestyle. I just sit back, build, fly, and rebuild.
Think that's funny? My auto insurance is $3.30 USD for six months coverage! Paid it the other day, and took a picture of it. It's cheaper than AMA insurance!

The GWS stuff is all plug-in and go. No soldering required.
Speed controls, motors and batt's all have JST connectors installed. Personally; I go with Castle Creation speed controls, (A Pixie 20P for the Beaver) I just think that they are a higher quality unit, with the programmable voltage cut off, and the great customer support that they offer. You will need to solder the connectors on the CC products.

I would also stay away from the Hitec Feather, and GWS receivers, as I don't believe that the quality is there.

Hey TT:
I got the setup from you. Can you believe I spent an evening counting teeth on the darned gears before I turned one over and saw that it was cast in the gear web?
Got a Watt Meter coming in this week. I've also got a ton of GWS gearboxes, so I can set 'em up and see watt's up. Gotta figure out how to use it, though. I think it's not made to Velcro onto the nose for weight, do you? So, I might have to break down and read the instructions.
I probaboy won't be using gearboxes much in the future. Outriggers, DC motors, whatever - they have enough power to swing whatever I can throw at 'em. I think that I'll eliminate the gearbox system.
I'll keep in touch.
And, thanks for that setup information. It got me started in the world of Brushless Motors.

Hi guys,

Just got my new cores from Barrett (Nice parts!). How have you been finishing these wings? Sheeting? Spars? Duct tape??

I figure I coud get away with epoxy and low temp covering, but I'd like to hear what has worked well for you guys.

Cheers!

Mike
