stumax f 104

Ok well time to start my stumax 104.the first pics were taken the day it arrived. the last few were tonight.I finnished fitting all the main parts. In the pics you see the wing root I had to cut two slots one for the stub spar from the fusalage and the other to clear the end of the spar in the wing.also the stub spar and former tack glued in the fuse just before I epoxied it in place. This will be a slow build I am working on three planes at one time.Along with my regular job and moving to a new home mid next month.I will keep up as best I can.

Signing on to the thread. Sounds like you have your hands full Scott, 3 planes and moving to boot. Best of luck on the build.

here is some ideas for finnish. see the wheel in the pic with the under wing tanks. just mount your tip tanks inboard and install hidden wheel and a retract nose gear. What do you think?

I am leaning tward the NASA job But I have not seen any pics of the blue and white nasa 104 with tip tanks or under wing tanks. the red and white 104 was Darel Geenameyer's he had to eject when he couldnt get the gear to drop and didnt want to belly it in. they say not to many survived doing that.

Cool pics, Scott! In the bottom pic, what's the plane behind the F104? Looks a bit like an F106 with funny inlets.

Regarding the gear, I'm working on a 3D model mockup of retracts for the mains, as soon as I've finished it I'll post some pics. I'm sure some small mechanical retracts would do just fine, the only thing is the scale size wheels will be small so tarmac would be required.

Stu.
Stu, it's a F-102 Delta Dagger which the F-106 Delta Dart is based on.

Well spotted Frenche. I could recognise the fin, but not the intakes. Perusing my 102 book turned up this side-by side 2-seater version pic which I had never noticed before.

Hi Scott

This one has the advantage that the topsides and undersides are different to help with orientation.

Leave it to the Canadian's Those guys have way too much time on there hands...

On a historical note:

Top Picture NASA F-104's Tail #013 (top jet) was involved in the XB-70-A2 crash
Flown by Gen. Joe Walker
The Jet was sucked into the XB-70 wing vorticies and flipped over sheering off both Vert Stabs.
The plane exploded and broke into 3 pieces.

Nice stuff guys. Yep its a 2 seat 102. There used to be a 102 intercept squadron based out of ontario airport back in the sixties. My dad used to work out there. When i was a kid playing in my backyard I could see and here the 102s departing and they would breake the soud barrier just as they passed my house.I used to love that!!
Stu has convenced me to put the gear in the fuse so back to the drawing board.

Skyray

Scott,

Which NASA Skyray are you referencing? This one? (see attached) Let me know specifically, there's a good chance I'll be able to help you out. I have a bunch of Skyray information thanks to the many people who have helped me in my research of my own Skyray projects.

PM me with your email address and I can email you some stuff. Now back to the 104 discussion.

Chris
