I'm also planning on Burgess Saturday. The weather is looking a little iffy but I will be there.

Option one there will be behind the Jr High next to the park as before.
Option two will be the park itself.
Option three is the elementary around the corner from the Jr High.

See you there!

I'll be flying early tomorrow, around 8AM. That should be early enough that I can still fly at PG, which is closer for me.

Question for the battery gurus... Had a wreck the other day that bent the top of my battery (HP1200). I pulled the covering off and it looks ok - I think it was just the "tabs" at the top that bent over a little. I straightened them out and it looks like it did before. Do I need to do any special charging to make sure there was no real damage? How do I tell if it's "OK"? And... what should I cover it back up with since I pulled the nice wrapping off to get a closer look?

Bending over the top usually isn't a problem. Unless you can smell the strong "sweet" odor of the eletrolyte, I'm sure they are fine. An electrolyte leak will mean one of the cells in the pack is likely going to die pretty soon.

The two things to worry about damage near the top are shorting and ripping tabs. It sounds like you did neither, but watch for it.

It seems to have charged up ok. The voltmeter shows 8.04V (and that's what it's always shown when they're charged). Should I wrap the cells in electrical tape? or Monocote? A size 4 diaper?

I use electrical tape. Just make sure not to squeeze the tabs together when wrapping.

Nate,

My boys and I cleaned up after everyone left. We did not see a voltmeter.

I'll try to be there at 2.

We are getting close to the last call for wings. I hope to be ordering foam soon.

I've owned and driven a Ford Falcon.... no gunner's seat there..... just a target to shoot it and put it out of its or my misery......

Everything went well through the sixth battery but on the seventh the gremlins bit. As I came out of the barrel roll on the deck I hit a 4 1/2 foot fence post at 60-70 mph so square that the plane stopped instantly and seemed to sit on top of the post. I thought the post had punctured the foam wing and was holding the plane in position but when I got there the plane was intact. The post is one of the wood ceder posts holding up the barbed wire next to the corn field to the south.

As a testimony to the Wild Wing and my battery mounting (for which I have been teased) the only damage to the plane was a broken control horn. I didn't even break the prop. The E-tech 1250 lipo was ejected about 15 feet into the corn field which now has a new layer of smelly wet manure. The end of the battery was bent but it survived. Total repair time for plane and battery was less than 15 minutes.

I sure love EPP and pusher configuration. My only regret is we didn't get it on video. The impact was better than I can describe. For you enviro-conscious lurkers in the audience, no fence posts were injured in the making of this story.

My boys and I will be going to Burgess in Alpine on Saturday for combat and flying at 10:30 AM.

The Burgess field in Alpine had 10 people per square foot. Little league has started with a vengence and they have used every square foot of grass. There wasn't even any parking. The whole city of Alpine must have coordinated to get that many teams on that little land.

After seeing the crowd at Burgess Jared, Darren, John and I went over to PGJH which was not in use today. We were the only ones there. Flying was good. Jared and I had a good solid hit.

A quick note on Props. The EP5043 is the prop for the 2 cell on a Razor 400. Jared's plane's performance was greatly improved with a simple prop change. He had unlimited vertical with a three cell and outstanding performance with the two cell.

Another note on props. Cut 1/4" off each end of the EP4040 (making it a 3540) and the amps drop and you might squeeze a few more flights out of you J250s. As the summer temperature goes up I predict that the J250s will overheat even more.

Boy I'll say. I was using a 5.75x5.75 and a 3cell 1650 pack. The batteries always came down just on the verge of being too hot. I tried a 2 cell Kokam 1500 with the same prop and I could barely keep it in the air. then Lee gave me a 5043 prop and it was night and day in terms of performance! On the 2 cell Kokam it flew great and with the 1650 3 cell I have unlimited vertical. AND when the plane came down the batteries were barely warm!!!

I dont claim to understand it but man what a difference!

This is the prop to use! EP5043!

Prop choices like this are something to document. I'll have to write it down, 'cause I'll never find this thread when I finally go brushless.

I was at PGJH at 8:00 this morning - not a soul in sight (well... Darren drifted by). It was raining lightly, and I got to practice my low-deck flight. I was going to get a haircut on Monday, but don't need one anymore. What a rush to have the wing coming right at you "below ground level", then bring it up at the last minute. Haven't had that much fun since the wind was blowing 30MPH.

What is the amp draw on the Razor 400, EP5043 on 2S? What is the wing weight and the type of lipo cells? I ran my Razor 400 on 3S Tanic 1550s with a 4.1 X 4.1 prop and drew about 12-15 amps, the 4.7 x 4.7 drew about 15-18 amps, static amps of course. My 24" 10 oz Mini Speed wing had unlimited verticle and 70 mph (I'm guessing.) I got shot down twice at full speed. It was either radio interference or a Rx malfunction. May my MSW rest in peices.

Now I have a reason to finish my Wild Wings.

I measure about 10.5 amps with the Razor 400 and a 2 cell 7.4 volt with the EP5043. Both my 28" and 35" perform very well with this combination. The performance is so good that I don't feel any need to go to the 3 cell.

Keeping the motor running on the 2 cell may extend the life of the motor. I have already broken 2 shafts with the Himax 2025 4100 with a stiff prop and don't want to do that to my Razor. Thses two reasons motivated me to try it in the first place.

The EP5043 is a soft flexible prop so it's actual thrust may be misleading when compared to a stiff prop. It was just by trial and error not by any magical formula that we came up with this set up.

I will probably be flying Thursday and Saturday this week.
