GWS Retracts... to buy or not to buy?

Hy guys,

I like to use then on a model that will weights about 20 - 23oz. Wiht a 2" scale whells

I made a forum serch about the threads that talking about the GWS retracts, so some users says that is good, others says that isnŽt good..

I canŽt decide !!

I would like that the friends who already had used these models wrote its experiencias here, to help me to decide to use or not these retracts.

I will use the Futaba 3108 servos on then.

Thanks for all !

Get the GP .10 size mechanical retracts. The GWS micro retracts are for 16oz model and under. The frames and mounting tabs break if you look at them wrong.

To slow the retract speed get one of these:

Or robart 1/2a retracts.

I have not used the GWS 'blue' ones. The black ones are good for lighter weight planes (<12oz?)

Lucke, I think even the blue ones may prove to be too lightweight for your purpose. I used the Robarts on a HOB FW-190 (~24oz).

Part of this too depends on the speed of your plane. The FW is a speedy little thing that will land at a higher speed than something with more wing. Landing and takeoff speeds put side stress on the gear as well as the 'normal' shock of landings.

If you have a 22oz slow flier, then the GWS may work fine.

The Blue GWS retracts seem to have vanished from their webpage, and we have 2 sets of black ones. Looking at what you people are saying, they should support a stock formosa, right?

Peter,

I think that this retracts will support the Formosa. If the model weights about 15 ~18oz I think that should be ok. My problems is that my model will weight about 23oz

The blue ones are in the GWS yet take a look

Peter, marginally. Just look at that wire on them and you can see they aren't made for much load. GWS never has been much for decent LG wire. I think their logic is it's better to bend the LG than to bend the plane, so, their LG will deform on almost any landing.

Prehaps I should buy a blue set for my Tiger moth and Pico Sick . I'm not overly worried if the gear folds on the Formosa, it's a $60 plane with $15 retracts, and if they don't work I'll either just fill in the gaps with Balsa sheeting or put in the stock LG.
