Great Planes Combat Corsair

Hi All:

Sat morm trp to LHS and he had just got this in...Great Panes Combat Corsair 1/12 scale. Its a beauty excellent craftmans, really do not know how they do it. WS is 41" and the wt of all components is 20.7oz. Perfect conversion to electric. I plan to put a Typhoon 15/10 which is good for up to 30oz and a great motor that I have using for my pusher jets.

I'll take some pictures, I may even be able to maiden it tomorrow.

With the typhoon 15/10.... 25.4oz. Bad news is the motor is so lite and the tp2100 only about 4 oz need to add wt to balance.......sheez.

That's something you don't hear too often... 'too light'

I'd like to know how it goes too.

GP Corsair...

Ralph, she is nice, even better than the GWS....I wonder what other options are available for the balance...an AXI 2808 series or Mega 16/15 series...??I think your left wing decal is upside down. Please share the flight report,Thanks.

Thanks, Duclet....yes you are right about the decal. ...but they stick pretty darn good on the covering. I'll wait tell it gets battle weary and try to take off and turn around. Also I need to see what other motor/gb combo/outrunner would give me 200-250 watts. I need to get some wts this morning to get te final AUW. Its a real nice size.

Truly much nicelr the GWS, but it wouldn't take the beating that a foamie will.

I take it that because this is considered to be a combat plane - it has no landing gear?

Yes, thats the way GP pitches it. Again once it gets war weary I made try to see if a small set of retracts could be fit in...should lots of room....just a wt issue.

Maiden of GP Corsair

Just came back from the flying field and flew my T-38 and maiden the Cosair.

I like to tell you that it flew right off the drawing board........guess what....IT DID! 5 mph headwind AUW after adding 7 ozs of fishing lead wts (in little plastic bags epoxy to the fg cowl, seem to work ok) was a whooping 41 oz. Not a problem for the Tyhoon 15/10 on a 10x7 prop. Flew extremely well and quite agile no vices. Landing was cross-wind into final and then a little right turn into the wind ...no snap flat as you want.

Now the bad news is my servos on the wing were set too high and I haven't cut off the excess rod from aileron horn to servo and sheared both servo arms No bigger, may add some protective covers or maybe install a couple of 200 gal drop tanks so not to hit the servos.

This is an exceptional plane, well made, excellent flyer, great value...FWIW, I highly recommend it to all.

I would be sick at adding that much weight to the plane. Was there any way to lighten it up that you could see? Glad it flew well.

What battery pack did you use? I thought about using an AXI 2820/10 with a TP 3s2p 4200 mah lipo pack which would bring up the AUW closer to around 48 ozs.(HEAVY!)

Here is a photo of how I ended up configuring the motor and batteries on this plane to get the cg where it needed to be without adding any additional weight. The AUW comes to 34.5 oz with an AXI 2814-12 and three 1320 3-cell thunderpower batteries. I really wish I could maiden it but the wind is gusting over 40mph and it's raining.... Not much better tommorow, but maybe..
