NEED 3-VIEW FOR POND RACER N221BP

It was made for pondracing by Burt Rutan in the mid 90's 95 I think
It has clean lines and would make a good electric I think
realy realy fast
the origional is gone because of a crash that killed the piolet
I am wondering if anyone has any good pictures of it or a three view
otherwise I will have to make up the dimensions myself

The Pond Racer was designed by Bert Rutan in 1990 (I believe), crashed in 1993.

I don't have any 3 views for you but you might try sending an e-mail to Scaled Composites. I'm sure they'd be happy to help out. Plus, they've got a bunch of info on their more current projects.

Here is another pic I found. I also found some files that are used in flight sims as models to fly around. You may be stuck just building it from photos.

Hey Joe,

I know Scott Black made a twin 035 powered one. I was thinking twin speed 400 yet many other projects have precluded me building one. Let me know if you need help designing the plane. I'm really adept at aerodynamics as it's what I study for school.

If I made the pond racer would It be worth the trouble to have contra rotating props
The most agresive pusher I found is a zinger 11*10
with 16 cells I should be able to get about 75 on 40 amps
If I go to APC 11*14 props I might be able to get close to a 100mph on the flat
would that much bite on non contra props make it a bear to handel?

Crazy Joe, stick with the props rotating in the conventional way. Those APC props are great, I use a lot of them and recommend them to everyone. I too would like to get my hands on a 3-veiw. This is one wicked looking plane. I would install a set of Aveox internet specials and as many cell as I could fit.

I was thinking of 2 aveox 1015-2y's with 4.4 to one gear boxes
with the 11*10 contras I could get about 75 pitch speed on about 16 cells puling about a 40 amps
with the apc 11-14's I should be able to hit 100 no problem.
mabby I will just build the plane and try them both and than decide if one is better

Joe,

The need for counterrotating propellers is sorta not necessary. The full scale british version of the P38 has non-counter rotating props and flew fine. I doubt you need counter rotating props.

Let me know when you are sizing the plane. keep in mind the wing area will prob have to be scaled up since the wing was insanely small.

I also heard that the british version flew like crap the prop torq was a real issue and it was underpowered
they skipped the turbo's also
any who I was thinking of a bungie launch and about a 400 sq inch wing span
I will send out for a three view in the next couple of weeks
Just to busy looking for a job right now

Hmnn Joe I never heard that. Anyways i acquired a 3-view from Flight International. The wing is really small. At 1/6 scale wing area is only 280 sq ins with a span of 50.5". The prob is the huge nacelles. At 1/7 scale the spinner is 3.7" in diameter and the nacelle is 4.4" in dia at max cross section.
For a 400 sq in wing the span is roughly 60" and spinner size is 4.4" with a 5.28" max cs diameter. The other issue besides availablilty of light spinners this size is the fact that two seperate battery/power systems should be used. My flying buddy and I are leaning to a 1/6 scale model with an upscaled wing powered by twin Ap29's with 6 1250 cells each. We're gonna make the plugs for the fuses soon and then get molding parts.

There is a good need for counter-rotating props as im sure you know. Counter Rotating props nullifies a large portion of your P-Factor which greatly changes many flight characteristics. No doubt you will climb and dive more efficiently. There will also be minimal yaw when you change the pitch of the aircraft.
