Hi buddies,

I'm having a great time with my FMA Razor 400 but some of my audience just get me annoyed. Before it flies, I get comments like, "Will this fly?","Where's the body of this so called plane?" and even worse "It looks like a toy". Of course, most of these negative comments go away once they see it in flight but even then, they still comment on its inability of not being able to ROG and not looking traditional.

So, I am looking for amy next plane and here is my criteria.

- ROG
- Traditional Look
- Basic Aerobatics
- Looks "Big"
- Faster than Razor 400

There are a lot of planes out there that will fit that criteria, but I'm almost hesitant to recommend another plane because it sounds as though instead of buying it for yourself you're buying it for the guys you fly with.

Even so, what are your parameters?
Speed 400 or 600?
Battery packs (number of cells)?
Budget?

Actually, its not just because of others. I like the idea of ROG as well and I have never owned a big sport plane. I do not have any preference for motor systems or battery packs but I do have a $200 budget. If it exceeds the budget a little, its alright.

tks for your recommendations. I've looked at the planes and the Lark Extra 230 really fits my criteria but it will cost nearly $400, twice my budget!! I could spend perhaps up to $50 bucks more, but $200 more is steep. I'll keep looking.

The kit is only $50 and that gives you about $150 left for the RX servos and battery and motor.

Looked around D.A.W, the planes look nice but a tad bit small for my liking. I would prefer around Razor's wingspan, around 50 inches.

I know this is in the Foamy forum, but I'm going to suggest it anyway, how about the X-250? About the easiest to build balsa plane out there, and can take a bit of abuse (for wood that is).

50 inches is going to get expensive. The Wattage Sukhoi is a kick, fairly cheap, takes a beating and ROG's (Rise Off Ground). If you put two small vertical fins just outside the body at the rear of the razor and dig a small hole in the bottom of the nose, you can glue in axles for 3/4 inch tailwheels. ROG's are a blast, touch and goes are even more fun (the most fun is controlling direction on takeoff with elevons).

Here's another vote for the Wattage Sukhoi SU-31. It's small (29.5" wing), but it's one heck of a performer at 12 ounces using a geared 370 and the 8 cell NiMH pack (the stock setup). Great climb and nice aerobatic capabilities.

If you really want something a bit larger, the X-250 would be an excellent choice. I'm running one now with a geared (3.5:1) Graupner 480 Race on 8x800AR cells and a 10x6 prop and it has awesome climb.

In the 50" wing catagory, you may want to consider a JK Aerotech T-52 foamie powered by a Kyosho Magnetic Mayhem (Tower carries them) with a MasterAirscrew 3.0:1 gear box and a 12x8 prop on 8 cells (800AR or 1300CP). Good performance on a budget.

Can't speak from first hand knowledge, but you might want to do a search on the JK Aerotech E-plane. Foam and about the size you are looking for. Does not have landing gear, but I'm sure someone has already done it. If not, you could start a trend!

After looking around, I've realised that my requirements are quite high for a $200 budget. I have to compromise somewhere but I would really like to meet my own criteria, which means I have to spend more $$$. I am still looking around.....
