Liquidity - thanks so much! I think I might try (2) Thunder Power 2200mah 25C batteries below - they should fit. Let me know if you think otherwise. Thanks again!

Hey, guys; I was hoping someone could help me w/ prop selection for my Siren. I have my power system set, so all I need is prop, spinner and any other items necessary to complete the prop setup - any ideas? I want to go w/ a CAM style prop via Hobby Lobby or something, so if someone can fill in the blanks, I would appreciate it!!

We had a club member who's brand new...maiden flight Siren disintegrated in flight today. Wing just blew apart at speeds within reach of a BoT.

Anybody else seen issues with the spars at the outer wing panel joints?

Just curious. I'm not sure this puts the Siren on my "A" list...

Nope. I've hammered mine over and over, and also seen the Great Planes guys put the Siren into dive, followed by a loop tighter than I'd ever risk with any of my composite ships, the wings was bent like a banana - no issues. In fact, they ended up crashing that same model, damaging the fuselage, and using that same wing on a replacement (they came to the event with spares!)..

No biggee....just curious.

Lots of things can conspire to kill a model from the time the box is opened until the maiden flight.

Yeah, I wouldn't use anything less then 30 minute epoxy on those joints. Then add a inch and half of covering over it.

Extended use report: detachable wings

Andy,

Just wanted to report that I've had a dozen or more flights on my Siren--built with detachable wings--and no problems to date. We built it with end-grain balsa laminated on all 4 sides with carbon fiber instead of the stock spars and glueing. I use a short steel pin to locate the wing pieces at the rear (it's a nail cut off and sharpened to a point--diameter about 3/32). Gentle loops and shallow dives so far, so I haven't TRIED to blow it up. Hope this info is helpful.
Cheers,

Dave
p.s. you're right about spoilerons being better at slowing than flaps, thanks!

rare,
when you say (2), do you mean 2-cells? That is a 3 or 4 cell motor.

Hey Guys!

Can i fit two 143x45x11mm 2s packs on top of each other?

How much motor/gearbox weight is good for a 200-300g lipo? What setups do you guys got?

Best regards, Jonathan

I think the width (45mm) is very close to the maximum... I will do a measurement this evening and than I know more about the maximum width.

Edit: Here is the result: the the maximum open space is 40mm, so I think is not very comfortable to insert the two packs, the maximum space between the preinstalled wood (for the battery) and the uper edge of the fuselage is 26mm, so the height would not be the problem, but the width.

About the second question: It depends also of the length from your motor/gearbox combo, because if its too long, you can't shift the battery so much forward as required.
I think it should be between 250 and 280g, but as I say, it depends of the maximum space you have left between end of motor/gear combo and the cg.
I use a outrunner without gear with about 160g, an external RX battery plus more than 100g lead. I use a 3s2200mah battery, so you see its better to have a bigger motor/gear combo, so you need not so much additional dead weight to reach the CG.
