Tuff Struts Landing Gear for the 3D Pro

Still looking for replacement LG for the new Century 3D Pro H'Bird. The stock LG design is butt ugly (IMHO) and fragile (even the newly redesigned Century landing gear doesn't pass muster). Based on past great experiences with the MIA MicroFlight Tuff struts (available from SparrowProducts.com), I have come up with a beta design to mount these on the 3D pro. This design will evolve and if there is sufficient interest, I will try to talk Mark at MJPCarbon.com into offering a CNC CF DIY kit for those that would like to outfit their Pro's with this nearly indestructible LG. Here are the pics...............

Let me know if you think these should go into production.

Cheers - Boyd

I love those struts on my Shogun but why do you have it sitting so high?

T/R ground clearance. The standoffs are the required height to duplicate the stock gear vertical dimension and keep the T/R off the ground. The Canopy upgrade I have in work will go a long way in changing the "stilted" look.

Doesn't need T/R clearance... Here is mine with a set of Shogun landing gear. While it could sit a little higher it really doesn't have to.

My concern with your setup is the strain the gear is going to take being so tall.

To each his own. Glad to see someone found a use for the ridiculous Shogun LG.

I've never had a problem with the stock Shogun landing gear.... those who can't land are ones with problems.

Tsk, tsk. No probelms landing here. They just look like crap and were designed specifically to fit in the shipping box that the boys in Taiwan had selected for the Dolphin way back when.

Here's mine with MIA Tuff Struts I did it last week. After a mishap I'll be making some alu tail blade grips and try a solid alu tail drive shaft. Stupid me left the heli at the shop last night after making a CF vertical tail fin for her. I'll post another picture later tonight.

The stock landing gear was giving my 3D Pro a nose bleed

You need all that height so you can mount a gun barrel or a rocket booster in those two holes .
Looks like a mini camera ship.i guess if you put a bigger canopy on it the size will be all relative.

Looks good Boyd!!! (and everyone else who has done a similar conversion.)

Have you got any further back pics so we can see how it looks with the whole heli?

Thanks, Duane

Here you go Duane. A few with an L.A. Heli MaxIr canopy ( Got to paint one up sans the MaxIr decals for the hybrid) and a few with a Shogun cut down canopy. Working on a "low rider" Tuff LG adapter variant also.

Cheers - Boyd
