Question
New 2M full-house

Anyone seen/bought/flown the new Spider from www.mibomodeli.si
also available from http://www.espritmodel.com/

It looks awesome; 2m, moulded, huge flaps, x-tail, MH30 & thin wing.

Price is good too...227euro or 329US from esprit.

It looks just like a mini-Breta Nyx.

regards,
Chris.

Wow, they've got a number of very interesting models at great prices. Are they new on the scene? I wonder if anyone has ordered from them before?

That model is old in Europe, it is sold by Airtech in France and as the Toplight Ultra by Franken Modellbau.

I am not overly impressed by the quality, but the price is nice...
It is more expensive in France and Germany.

Airtech .... it's worth having a look in thier "best seller" category. The Pixel is a great weekend ripper. I have a friend who's been flying his for a couple of years now, and the "pitcheron" concept is a head-turner. The roll rate is unbelievable... and I think it should be easy to add a rudder if you felt the need.

The biggest advantage is that it packs RIGHT down.... and can be fitted into a rucksack very easily without the risk of damage...

Again, Toplight or X'Race standard 1.5m version.

freight costs from Slovenia to Australia

The Spider would be a cheap buy if it weren't for the expensive shipping. I've been quoted 227 euro for the 'plane & 148 euro for shipping to Australia.

Sigh.

I understand if the package comes under 42" the post costs are quite cheap...however the Spider fuselage is 1.1m which I think just puts it up a bracket.

In this day & age you'd expect cheaper freight...148/227 = 65% of the total cost is frieght!

Anyone know of cheaper alternatives?

regards,
Chris.

My guess on the true identity of the 60 was also the x'race, which is sold as the Epsilon 1.5 by Northeast Sail.

One Manufacturer originaly from Bulgari
3 different versions
1.5m
2.07m
2.5m

2 different wingtips on the 2.07m version
possible 2 different airfoils (unconfirmed however reseller advertise this)

4 different Names:

XRace
Epsilon
Spider
Ultra Mega ( Frankenmodellbau already out of business)

That's the reciepy to confuse costumers.

Actually, it's 148/375 = 39.5%

The Whisper from SUSA seems like good value in this class:

http://www.soaringusa.com/products/p...ategory_id=258

Should ship at a reasonable cost, too.

@ Anton :
disagree the Whisper is more a TD ship not a (sport) sloper = different class
only comparable in price and size (to 2m Spider/Epsilon )not flight caracteristics which are quite important (IMO)
Had once a Whisper, so know what I'm talking about.

Cheers

I was only going by the SUSA website info:

"...This is the ideal model if you only want one model to do it all..."

and

"...this model will fly in the lightest conditions, and will surprise you with great aerobatics..."

Sounds more like an all-round sports model rather than a TD ship at face value, although obviously it is not a high speed F3x or DS ship.

Fair enough, you should know what it's like. But perhaps they have modernised the design since your model? Is it the same foil? Maybe SUSA need to change their description? I don't know...

Isn't the 1.5m "bird" at SUSA pretty much the same as the 1.5 Epslon, AKA "Sixty"?

39% doh!

Apologies for the 3rd-grade maths.
Well spotted Anton; you can do my tax anytime!

Got feedback from mobimodeli saying that shipping costs for 1 to 3 Spiders would be the same so I guess if you get a 3-sum together then the wallet-tremors can be minimised. The Spider looks "eyesweet"...a friend has a Breta Nyx which is the best flying aeroplane I've seen...thermals/slope/F3F...if the Spider flies half as well I'll be happy. Hidden costs are a killer though...I now HAVE to get that EVO9

Expect a review when it gets here.

regards,
Chris
