Interview request from Star Wars Insider magazine!

To Go-RC and the others on this thread:

I would love to talk with you all about these radio-controlled homemade Star Wars spaceship models you're all building! I'd like to write up a piece for an upcoming issue of Star Wars Insider magazine, since I know our Star Wars fans would get a kick out of learning more about how you get these beloved vehicles to fly from your postings here:

Its not star wars but this does fall into the realms of scifi

Anybody remember rushing home from school to watch an old cartoon called battle of the planets?

I figured the main ship might make a good flyer so i found some drawings and have knocked up a very rough test glider which seems to fly very well until it runs out of airspeed.

Hopefully it will have edf's buried deep within it when the RC version is built.

Its my first time of building a flyable model so any help /tips / hints would be muchly appreciated.

Yeah "Battle of the Planets", also known as "Science Ninja Troop Gatchaman", or "G Force".

I'd make the thing very light. There's not a lot of wing. At a guess, all the battery, motor and electronics are going to be in the back to make the thing balance. Good luck!

1/2 size Falcon

I used the plans from GO-RC and sized them 50% and constructed a smaller version
weight at this time is 2.5ozs. I am planning to install a park 250 with a 6A, 800mAh 2C & cirrus cs-44 servos. flying weight should be about 4.2ozs.

I wanted to try to build one and had some ideas. Was wondering if you could use a quad small duct fan set up in four corners to make it hover. Also, maybe have a single or possibly double duct fan set up for the forward thrust. And a rudder(s) concealed inside to direct the EDF left and right turns. Or would this just be overkill. I've never built an RC aircraft, but would love to try this one. Don't know how crazy of a radio is needed to control hover with flight.

Quad duct

I know it's not Star Wars related, but maybe a quad EDF would be a cool idea for the MF. Maybe mounted inside of the body with 1 or 2 for thrust.

hi everyone
I've spent the past few days reading through this amazing thread, all these projects are just amazing, I was looking at doing either an x-wing or millenium falcon myself which has all become so doable now with all the info you guys have shared, I just want to ask one question, which is easier to built as a first project, the X-wing or a millenium falcon? thanks again.

I find for fixwing the X-wing is easier to build and fly, you can see alot of successful builds & flights as they pretty much fly like an canard or delta wing plane , as for the Falcon shes not too aerodynamic in scale build so most people would build a profile 3d plane out of it like a nutball just to make it work

Millenium Falcon Depron Parkflyer Maidenflight

based on the design from SGTalon here in the RCGroup, I built my own Millenium Falcon from Depron 6mm, some CFK, Span 550 mm, AUW 300 g.

Last month I did the maidenflight, it flies great, easy to handle at any Speed, Loops, rolls, turns and extremely soft landing, like a leaf, falling to the ground!

Maidenflight Video now ready to watch at YouTube:

Millenium Falcon Maidenflight at Grüner Heiner (3 min 33 sec)

Thanks to all here in the Forum, where I found this nice idea.
Enjoy the Video.
