The Bat Wing

The Bat Wing
I’m not sure haw to categorize this aircraft. To the wing flyer it might be an abomination. To the general aviation audience it might be just “plane” strange.
To me, it’s the “Bat Wing”.

The story begins at Christmas, when my father gave me another Slinger. This meant I had four now, and my third one is Super Slinger (with a landing gear) that flies completely outrageous. So what to do?
I looked in the box and saw not a flying wing but a wing set. With this idea I remembered one of the guys at the flying field sayin that a plastic “wiffle” bat makes quite a tuff fuselage. A trip to the toy store and a dollar later I had a fuselage. Some coroplast for the tail, a geared 05 motor with a 12 inch folding prop and “voila” you get the “Bat Wing”
So you might be thinking does it “fly like a bat out of Hell”? All I can say at this posting is “that it flies”. I’ve only have one flight with it. After about four minutes, it was cut short by the set screw coming out of the prop adapter and at the wrong time. It dug a six inch divot in the soft wet ground, at high speed, with no damage. Short flight, but I deem it a success. So one set screw later I’m waiting for the rains to cease so I can try it again. (This time hopefully, landing successfully)
So I will post the outcome later. So for now you can take a look at the pics.

Th motor is tiewrapped onto a 4 1/2" piece of 1 1/2" pvc pipe that has been cut in half lengthwise. Then it was inserted into a hatch cut in the bat and then screws attached the motor mount to the bat.

Next time I'm in San Diego, I'll bring my modified "Super" Slinger and we'll have at it. Combat is the true test ! I'll let you know when I'm coming down there.

Hey ! I resemble that remark .
Looks kinda cool , but , Maybe it wouldn't look so abominated if you would extract the Slinger decals .

DIfferent! - but, er, it's not exactly, well, 'tail-less' .

Perhaps it's feeling lonely up here. Maybe the folks in the Electric and 'Sport'flying would be more interested?

Hope they don't breed.
