Whose Piloting Your GWS Plane? - A thread just for the little plastic pilots!

I have just finished my PT17 and thought it would look a little odd not having a pilot sitting in the seat, specially being an open cockpit. With the opinion that some plastic pilots look a little fake I thought I'd go for something a little different, I've seen little snoopys and other comic characters used in other peoples open cockpits so I thought I try for a little character for mine. I chose to go with a pengiun by the name of Tux, for those who dont know, it's Linux's little mascott! (http://www.sjbaker.org/tux/)

So I found an old water squirter bath pengiun, bribed my kids with Macca's to let me have it and went to work with the surgical blade, super glue, some old brown electrical wire, yellow paint and my imagination and created my flying Tux - complete with flapping scarge and all!...

For pics of the PT17 if anyones interested they're on another thread at the bottom of the page: http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...3&page=2&pp=15

Great stuff mich. I carve wee pilots from blue insulation foam, then paint them up with acrylic. They look great, and they weigh next to nothing. Im a great believer in reducing weight as much as possible. Barry

thanks for the commnt rcminiman, how's about a photo?!

I thought of carving out a pengiun from balsa but this little rubber one is quite light... I painstakingly carved out alot of the inside in areas as the moulding process left some big thick areas on the inside... might be great for moulded chocolate easter eggs but not for a rubber flying toy! LOL! yes, lightness is the key, specially when it sits further back from the CG.

Pilots

Are pilots a form of self-expression? If so, I still don't know what mine are saying about me...

GWS P51 driver was found in a toybox in a garage sale, can't remember where the GWS Tiger Mod pilot was found; "Bugz" character, obviously...
