is it necessary to modify the formosa for 200 watts?

i usually run a light setup(rz 300, 3s 1500) no gear no mods. and apc 9x7.5. flys great. but, i would switch back and forth with a 2025 himax and larger lipo. for a higher wing load and more speed. (all this time keeping a light airframe). will it rip apart? aileron flutter? any comment would be appreciated. -txfly

Tons of people run high power himaxx setups in their formosas, and many do add some structural enhancement.

Make sure your ailerons don't have any slop in them where the aileron torque rod is glued into the aileron. There are lots of ways to reinforce this without adding much weight if you want to. If things are loose, you might get flutter.

The wing seems to be stiff enough, but some people will use a stiffer carbon rod in place of the fiberglass rod, or even use carbon rods on top and bottom of the wing.

The fuse is also stiff enough, but tends to break behind the wing when it does break, so some people put some packing tape or glass or carbon in that area to reinforce.

I think that's all that's necessary for the formosa with lots of power. I think a lot of people fly them stock and it does quite well from what I have read.

Should stay together as long as you reinforce it like Kenkamm states. I'm having a blast with mine. Still holding up with over 200 watts on it.

It's fast and shoots straight up like a rocket. I can hold a short hover a bit over quarter throttle. Tons of fun!!!

Don't you need some kind of a license to fly it at those power ratings :-)

yorb, try a smaller gear and prop. 5.33:1/9 X 7.5 will increase your speed and still give faster verticle. i use 12x6 for slow 3d type planes

Sorry no picture. All my servos are in the original cutouts and I only use one HS-55 servo for both ailerons. Had to cut out the whole inside of fuse area to fit my battery and so I could get to my electronics because with this much power, I needed to glue the wing on. Hope this helps.
