Most RC radios use ppm, Pulse Position Modulation. That is a sync pulse and a pulse for each channel. The pulse width is the imformation. The only reason you can buy an aftermaket RX and have it work, is because of this documented standard. The BR used a proprietary method of encoding. Why would normal RC radio work?
On top of this, the 49MHz is a freq band, like the airplane 72 MHz band. It's not a channel. You would still have to specify a channel in the 49MHz band.
