A few questions for my new setup

I'm running a 3s Kokam 15C 2000 lipo on my BT Corona. Significantly lighter that the previous packs I was using. I'm also running Matt's CF flybar. When I took it out for the first test flight today I noticed the heli taking off wayyyy to early. I'm definitely not getting enough headspeed b/c the heli was very difficult to control and just felt a little too light. Should I switch to two 2 degree grips to get a better headspeed? Right now I'm running two 4 degree grips. Or maybe a 2 and a 4? Not quite sure. I know the CF flybar will take away a little stability but I'm sure not this much b/c my piro rate was also very slow so I know its a headspeed issue. Also, for anyone running a 3s lipo pack how did you overcome the COG issue cause now the heli is a bit tail heavy (i have the pack all the way up front). Would like to stay with the 3s lipo packs dont want to have to go back to NImh. Trying to stay away from the bigger expensive lithium packs cause they're just too much of a high risk investment (crashes, etc).

I am using 110 blade. (pretty close to your setup) and 4-6 grip. you can try 2-2 or 2-4 though. Good thing about 110 blade is that it is almost impossible for boomhit. higher rotor speed also mean very high response. not for beginner though. very much like sports car.

ahh!! ok forgot about the 110 blades. I know they're shorter so this should help (less boom strikes as well I bet). Ok I'll order a set or two. What headspeed are you at for hovering? What about your COG askamn? Did you notice yours to be a bit tail heavy?

I am figuring 2000 at hover and 12 amp draw. I did lose some of the pure vertical power that I had, but still have plenty of climbing power, and top speed went up dramatically. I figure 3000rpm top head speed and about 32amp draw.

I mount my battery in front, and it is bit tail heavy, but not too bad overall. stock tail should be better. (lighter tail) two pack almost balances perfectly....

great thanks for the info Askman. i'll order a set of the 110 blades and see how I like it. If all else fails I can stick with bigger packs if the high responsiveness is too much for me.

if response is too high, you can go to 6-6 grip and reduce head speed.

Several of my rc helicopters have tail heavy but I use the elevation trim to help. But for all of my airplane one, I will use the "nose" weight, some of which are lead with double sided sticky tape, some are just play dough or clay. If the total weight is not as issue, you may want to tape a quarter or two to inside the nose of the canopy at the most forward point. One of my heli, I extended the battery tray by fastening a piece of retangular CF to the stock tray.

Hey Askman, one more question on this. What if I cut 3" off each blade? The 110 blades are 10" (120 blades are 13"). I'm gonna buy the 110 blades anyway but heck if I could use the ones I have now as backup why not?

cut about 1.5" off. you can always take more off. 110 blade have 2 degrees built in. i found that 1.5" was really nice(using tipped blade)

I broke a tip on one of my blade, so I cut the other one to match. it was about 1.5" tip broken off, so I cut it smooth. it flew really nice. (gave you a nice handling heli without the race car feeling that i get now)
