Machine,

How well did she balance out? Even though the templates don't show it we have been cuting out some foam in the nose to ther the motor and gearbox frame back further.

Test flight??

I'll have her up tomorrow it was to windy today. It balances out at 10mm from the leading edge, and i've got velcro in place to adjust it.

machine,

I would not fly the P51 with the CoG that far forward. Looking for trouble. Should be 60mm or so from the leading edge as per this post

I'm actually flying the zero, and your right the cg was horrible, i'ts been mved to 55mm back. Flew great this morning, alittle up elevator trim and hands free, Nice. I brought it up to 70feet and cut the motor to see the stall and dead stick handling (it's for combat so at one point i'll be doing this I can feel it) needed alot of speed to get control again but it's got a preditable glide rate and stalling isn't that bad. So far i'm liking the plans I'm cutting the P51D this morning, just have to get some more carbon spars.

Machine,

Glad to hear. These little planes have a high wing loading and do need a bit of air speed to fly but fun never the less.

P-40

I just started the P-40 last night. I got it all cut out and ready to assemble. Great plans Scotta. Thank you!!! The Zero is next, a great opponent for the P-40.

I am trying to get some folks in our club to try the combat thing. I built Irone's P-47, another great plane. I flies so well the guys at the field where very suprised. I think we may be able get some fighting in before Winter!
We did try some combat at our anual fun fly I was fling my Wattage cub, and my friend used his way over powered E-Starter. It was great fun, but I managed to lose a wing during a high speed manuver (Not very Cub like), and it became a Piper lawn dart.

I think I like my chances better with the P-40, or P-47 better.

Has anyone tried CA hinges or some other type of hinge. I have not been real happy with the tape. It doesn't seem to hold up very well. I am also thinking about adding a rudder. Any thioughts?

Thanks again Scotta, and Irone for all the work you put into this. I will post some pictures when I get a chance.

I forgot to mention what I am building it out of. I am using 6mm Depron, and 4mm Carbon fiber rod.

Snoload1,

Don't know of a J250 powered combat machine yet, you could be the first. It will be interesting to see how it goes.
