I could not resist. After irone started the E-Combat thread I just had to design my own E-Combat plane. This is my first profile design as well but I have used a "shocked" style build. Hope it works ok.

The P51D E-Combat is totally untested at the moment but I hope to build it very soon.

The prototype plans are available on my website www.electricorange.com.au under E-Combat.

Hopefully members on the group can build this plane and suggest modifications or changes. As usual I will keep the plans updated on the site for all to use.

If the P51D performs Ok I would love to follow it with a few more, P40, Spit, Boomerag etc.

I've printed and cut her out but it seems kinda small. Wingspan is only about 26". Did I have a printing error?
Might still build it for a CDrom but I figure the wingloading around 10 so she'll be for outside only.

Sounds like a printing error, wing span should be 726mm or 29". When printing in adobe make sure to turn off "shrink over size pages". The prototype plans are in A4 so if printed on Letter it could cause a problem if not forced to print at 100%.

Definately an out door E-Combat machine!

She was designed for the EPS350C so spot on! It would be interesting to see how she goes on a "B" gearing.

On the plans I have shown where I think the 4mm Carbon tube wing spar should go. I have positioned it at the 30% MAC line. This should make it easy for locating the CoG (I hope). For this type of plane we want to be a bit more nimble so a 30% cog should work Ok. For early flights maybe a bit further forward.

I really need to build one soon to test my theory.

Well, you can't have combat with just one type of plane so I drew up the P-40 Warhawk for a friend as his first E-Combat Plane. Similar specs to the P51D.

Plans are available again from my site under E-Combat.

Now two American planes... I think we need a Zero or BF or ME to make this combat complete. What do people want?

Well, the weekend is here so it's time to break out the wire cutter. Starting with the P51D first. Progess so far, kit cutout and the wing spar grooves done and control surfaces cut and beveled.

I need to get use to the size of these birds. I lot smaller than what I am use to. Should be pretty fast with that higher wing loading.

Don't know what I was thinking when I put up the CoG position for the P51D.

To have the CoG at 30% MAC the measurement from the front cut edge of the wing panel where it is glued to the Fuse Front X section:

P51D = 63mm
P-40 = 44mm
Zero = 50mm

Got back to building this afternoon. This would have to be the fastest build (first profile other than a 3DX that I spent way to much time painting) that I have done.

Started with reinforcing the elevator.

Next was to hinge the elevator with packing tape and CA'ing the Fuse X Front to the Fuse X Rear.

Next, hinge the ailerons to each wing panel and then glue the two panels together. In goes the 4mm carbon tube and the wing is complete.

The wing is then glued to the horizontal fuse section. Draw a center line on the fuse to align the wing.
