What to do first, Polish or Wax?

Hi,

I need some help here with my truck. The paint on the hood is a little dull and I wanna see if I can make it shiny again. I have a buffer for the wax and polish but I'd like to know which one goes first, the polish or the wax...

Obviously a carwash will be better to begin with but have no idea what after that.

The wax goes last

The polish goes first. Do yourself a favor and do it by hand. You risk going through the paint to the primer with polish and a buffing wheel. Good luck. It's not red, is it?

If you use the buffer and are thinking you might go to deep and into the primer you can take 1/4 inch masking (or other)tape and cover the sharp edges. Buff, remove tape, go over the missed areas by hand. Old body shop trick.

If ya want to get the shine back, go to your local auto store and get the Maguire's Cleaner, Polish, and wax. They come in seperate bottles. Follow the instructions on the back. It'll take a good day of work to get it done, and they're kinda pricey, but boy do they work.
