Best Lipo Battery

Hi guys....I'm running a brushless Shogun that I am currently running a 3 cell Kokam 1200 lipo, but would like some feedback before I purchase another battery. What are you running and where do you get them at the best price? Thanks a bunch for your help. Don

Thanks for the super fast reply. I'm just hovering around the house right now , but power IS NOT the problem. I get bored B4 battery dies. I just want to get a good second battery. Also, how warm is too warm for a lipo? My infered thermometer says it's about 106-110 F after 8-10 minutes of flying.

What motor are you running? I have an E-Flight Park 400 4200KV in one and a HiMaxx 2025 4200KV in another (basically same motor). I run Kokam 1500 3s 15c, Thunder Power 1320 and some Tanic packs (that are too wide to fit right so they are retired). The 1200 pack you have will be nice and lite but you can get a lot more flight time. Doe's you Shogun balance properly (slightly nose heavy) with that pack?

Im using Polyquest 1800s 12C with a Himax 4200 9T. They go for about US$61 at either www.bpp.com or www.cheapbatterypacks.com (called IRate cells instead of polyquest I think). I have no trouble with duration, motor bogs a bit on pullout but I think thats more to do with the motor and pinion than the cells.

Ive got two and have no trouble balancing, but I do have the tailmounted gyro and servo as well as a belt drive.

Cheers
Will.

Thanks TheX for your response. I mistakenly said I had a 1200 but I really have a 1500 Kokam. I'm using the 2025 like you and flight duration is not a problem. I just want to make sure I'm not buying a looser due to advertising hype. (Like the Hummingbird I just sold!) The Kokam has been fine, although I do have to extend the battery tray to get a good CG, and I had to raise my elev and ael servo to get the clearance the battery needed. A pair of 1/16" shims took care of that. I've got the goods to do a belt drive conversion as soon as my gear goes. I just need info on good reliable batteries from the users viewpoint. Thanks for the imput, and keep um flyin!

I also had a 1500 first, It tends to get very hot (I got an 8C pack), so thats why I went looking for an alternative. I also had the issues with raising the servos and extending the tray. The 1500 flies a bit lighter, but the 1800s stay cool and last alot longer.

Also my suggestion, if you have the belt drive kit swap it, I wouldnt wait till the tail loses it and you wind up having to replace a $30 set of blades and $10 main shaft + $8 spindle shaft because you waited too long to swap.

Also check out BattlePack and Aircraft-World for PolyQuest packs.

One nice thing about PolyQuest packs is the build quality. Rubber sheath covering and shock pad caps on both top and bottom. Not that i ever crash ... but its nice to have...

a really good pack is a tanic or apogee 1660 3s2p weighs 127 gms with a deans
made of 830 cells holds its voltage really well i use the tanics as they balancing
taps built in rember you get what you pay for to me kokams are the bottom of the deck 1500 8c is 135 degrees low on power tanic after after 10 94 degrees
power wise way better than the kokam was at the start of the flight

Good point Cerberus!!! I will heed your advice even though I'm just hovering around the basement. 3-4 feet is still a crash.

If you don't mind, the remind us of what is the best battery.........??? Because I'm getting ready to buy some more myself......

The 10C Rating on the New Gen 2 Thunderpower.....is really worth every penny spent....if you have something that is better I'd like to know.....
