The magnets are N45 magnets I got from http://gobrushless.com. I would recommend using pretty thick magnets, as I had to double up with some thinner magnets to get the right amout of hold.

Well, I dremeled the landing gear down to a whopping 4oz.




I also worked up the nerve to break out the scale... AUW with *all gear necessary for flight, 32oz even. Not at all what I was hoping for. It should still be great for its intended role, but I was hoping to have extra payload capability available for future expansion. (was dreaming of parachute recovery system, pan/tilt camera mount, bigger camera, GPS/altitude datalogging, etc..). With camera and downlink, I am going to call it 40oz, giving it 9.2oz/sq.ft. wingloading. With the high lift airfoil and flaps, it should be ok.


*all gear being:
- porky airframe
- 4x hs55 servos
- Berg6 receiver
- Axi 2212/26
- Phoenix25
- 3s1p 2000mAh lipo
- 5V BEC
-connectors, wire, linkage, etc...

It seems like a lot, but it is a pretty clean airframe, with the vtail and all. The exposed photo gear is the drag creating component, i would guess.
So at slow speeds it looks like it will handle well with that wing loading.

I went to bed extremely annoyed about the weight of the landing gear, and finally, something useful came to me in a dream instead of all that other messed up stuff I usually get. I woke up and immediately sketched out the new landing gear, which I am guessing will weigh in at 1/2oz-1oz (so figure about 8lbs). I will use the current gear for testing, but at least I can shed some weight later.

I bet you could make your own. I have seen threads on it. It seems easy if not messy (epoxy).

Thank you Brutus, it's bookmarked. I looked at their stuff closely, but still wonder which landing gear width is best suited for a plane the size of a Slowstick . Any idea ?

I would guess anything the same size as a SS gear, such as 7 to a8 inches between the wheels.

Actually wheel size probably has more to do with good touchdowns than the gear.

Think about it. a small diameter wheel easily gets stuck on a pebble, whereas a large diameter wheel will roll over a bumpy grass field.

btw there is another site which makes nicer gear, but I cannot remember what it was.
