I saw it, you have to wait for it to start moving , no action for a bit. Nicely done!

Thanks to you all for the kind words. Its been raining and windy here all day, so I havent had a chance to fly it again, but I cant wait to get this thing in the air with a camera on it.

I know its a bit premature, as I am still getting the feathers wet on the prototype, but I have already started some work on ap2. Is there any interest in a commercial version of this plane?

Always the beta testers and never the customers

The main reason I ask, is that I can go two routes with ap2, another one-off custom, or I can spend a little extra time in the design stage and make it commercialy feasible.

There are a couple of the major design features I am determined to incorporate into ap2, the coolest of which will be a built-in parachute recovery system (after shopping around for "nice" 5+MP cameras, I decided it was a must). The airfoil material will also change to EPP, primarily for its durability. I have already put some hangar rash on this one that my EPP planes wouldnt even have noticed. For a utility plane, durability and safety are going to be the main goals, with massive payload abilities coming in second. I will try to cram good flight characteristics in there somewhere

Did I read correctly on your site about that plane being able to carry a 10lb payload? What are the specs on that monster? Wingspan/area/loading?

nihil,
I really enjoy watching inovation in progress and i really admire your effort in striving to design an ultimate ap platform..... but i see you have a pair of needle nose pliars rubber banded to your lipo's ..... nothing for nothing..... but thats a recipe for trouble. Hard impact on flight test and you have a catalyst for inflicting damage to a lipo pack.....maybe it woud be best to add ballast elswhere and shield those lipo's from potential damage.... just a thought,
john

I can appreciate your concern, but the way theyre strapped on, there are no points or edges to catch/puncture the foil pack on the lipos. I would be more worried about structural pieces or control linkages being positioned in a way that could ram them through the pack in the event of an impact. When it nosed in while I was playing with the flaps, the pliers stayed securely strapped to the battery, with the handles stuck in the soft ground. The nose of the hook broke off, and had it broken in such a way as to produce a jagged edge, it would have been more of a threat to the lipos than the pliers strapped to the top of them. Luckily it was a very minor incident and very little damage was done.

Thats a fine battery cooling solution in my book
