Question
What do you use to put attach the tinfoil heatsink? CA?

Forgive me as this quite probably falls into the realm of stupid questions...
but what? Super glue? Epoxy? Elmers? The luck of the irish? Snips, snails, puppydog's tails?

yer resident dumb question asker (everyone needs one, I swear)

For plain foil, I used just a tiny bit of double sided tape. I didn't want to insulate the foil from the motor can though so just used enough to stick one end. The other end I stuck back to itself with double sided tape too.

For my subsequent aluminum heatsinks, I used aluminum duct tape and it works like a charm.

Puppy tails might be interesting to try I just used glue stick on mine. I was able to pull the heat sinks off the old motors and reuse them on the new ones, not that it would have taken long to make a new set.

FANTASTIC!...I tried to make some sinks from alu foil but they did not look so good - and when I marker penned my motors black they did not seem to get above 'quite warm' so I never fitted the sinks.
After brush replacement surgery today (one motor just stopped) they seem to get much hotter so I'm off to find alu tape tomorrow.

Very nice diagram and description.

Incidentally the failed motor was the left hand unit (looking from the back) - top blades. Upon inspection it seemed to have got a little warmer than the other motor...which I also changed the brushes on. The failure was caused by one of the brushes being mangled..all chewed up. Not quite sure what happened, not overheating IMO. My wife did have a couple of newbie flights just prior to the failure, and some minor 'incidents' (mainly the dreaded "ceiling sticker") ....gotta wonder if something worked loose.
