hey, i'm 14 too... how fast is the roll rate on the formosa?

it depends on what movement you put on i fly with my jrxp642 with 150% travel adjustment each way and on 60% dual rate for normal flying still pretty fast roll on that but the flick the rates to 125% for a faster foll i have only got the servo ctrl rods in the middle i will try the outer hole to see what its like i looooveee this plane and fly it every night!!! on the 9.6v and 9x7 prop it climbs well as well
do you have one?? i need 2 find out how 2 post big video files 1st!

Cool, this is just the kind of thread i was looking for to post a question:

Where do you guys put your larger batteries in your formosa? I have a Tanic 2220 that I want to put in there. I am thinking about either removing foam or using 2 wing servos out on each wing instead of the one in the middle of it 'inside' the fuse. Anyone have experience with these methods? What do you do? Any pics?

P.S. I believe it limits you to 10 mb per file.

to get larger batterys in the battery tray you cut out chunks of foam with ouut going through and causing a hole!!!!! of course! what size is your battery approx i dont do lithum thats all heres some pics and heres a short vid!!

I used Radio Shacks 1200mah 9.6V NiCad's. But my formosa was verry slugish and flight times were close to 8min(had to use WOT in order to stay in the air) with Lipos I stayed close to 10min WOT and around 15min with throtle management

This is my old formosa! I had to sell it. To fund a new one I'm ganna use inexpensive ParkZone equipment, so I can use the "combat module" with my buddies

What setup are you using Aidan?..........Can't wait for the flight video

powered by Tornado micro 6 Direct drive silent and awesome
9x7 gws slowfly cutdown to 7.5x7 and loads to choose from APC etc

2 cheap servos out of a RTF cub (it was retired once)

this as been a fantastic plane and used to do all the stuff I wont do on No.2

Hi Aidan,
I am 65 and new to foamies. I like the look of the Formosa and was pleased to find a UK thread. Other threads I have followed seem to go for high performance with Himax motors and LiPo batteries.
My concern is that foamies will break on my, usual, heavy landings. I note that some builders have strengthened the Formosa with carbon fibre and glass tape, is this necessary?
What setup are you using?

Just because it's made out of foam doesn't necessarily mean that it's flimsy. "If it does not bend, it will break."......That being said, I think most people find foam to be pretty durable. Also, if you break it cleanly (like how a hard landing might break it), you can just glue it back together. The glue is stronger than the foam and it won't break in that spot again.

Yes, the motor can be changed after it is built very easily. I have flown the Formosa with the stock 350 and with a brushless. It's a good plane either way, better with the brushless naturally.

There's a gadjet that will connect the combat module to standard gear, look in the DIY electronics section- a kit to solder the thing up is super cheap!

On heavy landings I wouldn't worry much, but a lot of people have added a glass skin to foamies like this one with fantastic results- lots of added strength and ding resistance, little added weight. Look for J Morgan's "How I finish my planes" thread in the Parkie forum. Red61's P-38 thread over there has some good info on glassing as well. It's not difficult to do and makes a *huge* difference in durability.

That said, I've broken my GWS A-10 (same foam construction) into more pieces than I care to remember (more times, too), and always been able to piece it back together pretty easily. It's still flying!
