Monocoupe 90A Parkflyer build

I've been working on a Balsa Monocoupe 90A and I'm nearly complete. I've been posting in a thread over in Scale modeling here, but it was suggested there might be greater interest in this forum. I will continue the thread here in the parkflyers forum.

Specs are:
Span: 36" span
Wing area: ~190sq.in
AUW: ~8-9oz
Wing Loading: ~6-7oz sq/ft
Motor: IPS
Controls: R,E,T

Looks great! Not a hard build either it seems.

Love the lines of the 90A! I built the EasyBuilt version a while back, and converted it to r/c with an IPS drive and R/E/T control. It flew great...slow and stately, but I decomissioned it because the tissue covering would sag horribly whenever I flew it with even slight humidity...elephant skin city! I'll try to pos a pic later.

I'd be very interested in a kit too, if you decide to proceed. I've got a PJS 300SF brushless that would be ideal for the plane.

Are you planning to vacuum-form any windshields? That's the most challenging and frustrating part of the build for me.

Hi Doug,

The windshield is actually made from flat clear sheet. I have a template for cutting it out.

Add me to the list of Doculam converts. I just covered the wing tonight, I love this stuff! It's like a lightweight version of monocote. I covered the whole wing in just two pieces, one for the bottom and then one for the top. I covered the bottom first, and shrunk it smooth then covered the top. While shrinking the top, I added 3/8" of washout. I checked the bottom expecting to have to smooth out some wrinkles...not a one! Still smooth and tight! Unlike solite, with doculam, heat is your friend...no worries of burning holes in it if you keep the heat on it too long.

My birthday present arrived today...a Testors airbrush system complete with compressor...can't wait to try it out on the Monocoupe! Anyone have any suggestions for a paint scheme?

Although not completely finished, she's ready to fly with a RTF weight of 8.5oz. Let's hope the weather forcast improves for this weekend.
