What I did with my Christmas money...

Well I got stoked out by my dad, who offered me a ride in an AT-6 Texan, or the equivalent amount (around $300) to go towards servos for my 4m Fox. It took me most of the 25th to decide, but in the end I figured I would go with the servos.

Then the tsunami happened on the 26th. Death tolls are now 70,000+++ according to the news.

So I just emailed my dad and told him to send the money to the American Red Cross's International Response Fund instead. They and the victims throughout Asia need my Christmas money a lot more than I do!!!!

Steve, that is a wonderful thing. My daughter (6) caught a glimpse of the tragic conditions over there...we honestly try to keep them away from stuff like this, but with all the media coverage and all, it's pretty tough. Anyway, she noticed all the kids who had passed and she wanted to help. I thought this a great way to help her deal with what she had seen, as well as a great way to support her most selfless desire to assist. We too sent money to aid.

Very generous of you Steve.

Sooo sad...

Anyone can send a Red Cross donation via their Amazon account with a few clicks (in less than a minute!) here:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/su...108907-7667242

If you have an aversion to the Red Cross here are some other options:
http://www.google.com/tsunami_relief.html

...individual contributions to relief organizations are crucial because that money can be accessed and utilized immediately. In contrast, it takes weeks for government funds to be made available and put to work.

Thanks Guys.

Half of my extended family lives in Kerala (south-western tip of India...)
so, hearing the news hit close to home. My family's ok but, according to them,
a lot of people that happened to be on the beach or in the water (the poor and fishermen) were injured or killed.

Things seemed a lot worse on the eastern tip...and in Sri Lanka.

It's just sad that the tsunami hit some of the poorest places on the planet.
I sincerely hope all of the aid reaches them....I'm sure most of it will.

Just wanted to express my thanks for your altruism.

I was planning to send a donation for tsunami reflief myself, but I wasn't sure who to send it to. Thanks for the link.

I think I can live with one or two less airplanes this year in order to help out some of the millions of people affected by this terrible disaster.

There's a link on google pointing to several other funds and ways to help as well.

Another alternative, I chose to give to Direct Relief International. Solid reputation, been around forever, and top-ranked efficiency. On their website, you can read about their Tsunami efforts and donate securely online:

I know some of DRI's volunteers, all good folks.

Thanks for sharing the link Lance, I wasn't aware of Direct Relief -- they seem like an awesome operation.

To be completely honest ,

I think god will bless you and your family for your support to the thousands of children that are in need at the moment , I wish there were more people like you in the world as it makes it alot better for those left after such a tragedy , now that you have helped others , maybye someone will help you with your hobby related issues , good on ya buddy , I just wish that I could help in the way that many others like you have helped out as most of the people I know over here are praying for the aid needed in these tragic times..

Cheers
Doug
