Dear Airmen..........

And yet another dumb question! I dropped my training Rifle in the weeds yesterday, is it customary to use a separate BEC with the ESC's.

I never did on such a low power system. Now if you were going to stuff a Mega 16-15-2 on 3 cells, then you MIGHT want to start thinking about it....Did you trash the Rifle ? What ESC did you use ? That motor i sent you only draws like 18amps in the air...that is nothing to think about using a seperate BEC with.

Doug......Yes, it was the same motor that you sent me (thank you) I don't understand the reason and want to prevent another reoccurance. 25 amp eflight silver series BEC, 1300 Li-Po.

All was flying well, buddy boxin with a friend gently flying a race track pattern. Lost all controls including throttle and said Rifle went into dirt. Good news is that its repairable and going right back in the air where it belongs.

Got home powered up system all all worked OK. Checked battery voltage at 11.0 V. Charged 1300 mah battery (it took 950 mah and yes I know that I should have landed but I was having fun) With my understanding of ESC's. I can understand the motor quitting and having enough voltage to operated flight controls. Antenna orientation and location?

In any event, looks like I'll be installing a BEC on my VooDoo (suggestions)

Thanks Doug

I just do not use ext bec with these power sets.....i run my lipo's to the LVC a bunch of times, and the motor and servos work just fine (motor takes a second to come back) .You are for sure pay your dues to the speed goods but that just means you will have a long streak of good times coming soon Did the Rifle feel any better with that power setting ? or a bit more comfortable ?

Dear Airmen

I intend to maiden my Voodoo shortly, but not until I obtain advice on a battery.
I'm running a Nue 1105/2.5y with a CC54 esc, 4.1x4.1 APC prop.

I a thinkin of installing a 2S battery pack for the initial flights and am reluctant to modify the fusleage to accept a 3S 1600/1800 mah battery.

What say you all?

Thanks

Jerry

I say go 2s and get used to flying it then go 3s later. When you say modify the fuselage, do you mean change where the aileron servos go?

No, I was referring to enlarging the opening where the wing attaches to accept a larger battery.
I did install a 1600 mah Li-Po. As you probably know it was a snug fit and it did't leave room for the aileron servos,

Thank you

That is why I ended up using the Thunder Power 1300mah 65C 3cells.They fit perfect, have plenty of juice, and keep the plane LIGHT.You are going to have a blast taming that bad boy

You can trim the wing saddle to make it easier to fit the lipo, just epoxy a small piece of carbon,or glass strip in the corner of the saddle where you removed any material.

You may try a different 1600/1800s. My turnigy packs have plenty of room entering the fuse. My aileron servos were mounted differently however to fit the 1800 with the wing on.

Well, I finally managed to cram everything in the fuse and do its maiden today.

I am running the mega 15-16-2 with a 4.75x4.75 prop on a 60A CC esc and a Turnigy nano-tech 1600mah 3S 25~50C battery.

My problem is that it just did not seem very fast. What would be the fastest setup for this bird?

Thanks in advance

Your setup is screwy.

16/15/2 3S 4.1x4.1
16/15/2 2S 4.75x4.75

16/15/3 3S 4.75x4.75
16/15/3 4S 4.1x4.1

If you were running the 4.75x4.75 on the two turn at 3S voltage, I bet the motor got stinking hot and your lipo nearly melted as the voltage sagged so bad that it was scrapping the dirt

With a healthy 16/15/2 setup, you will NOT want to go any faster.

There is definitely something wrong then because it would not fly with the 4.1x4.1. After the flight with the 4.75x4.75 the motor, esc and battery were cold. Could it be that the esc is not setup right?

I will try to get some readings with a watt meter but i don't think I was pulling much over 20A with the 4.75x4.75, I might be wrong though.

Is it a Mega 16/15/2 ? Can you do a kv check?

Is your throttle travel right?
