F5J eXreme I 2005 New Years Day Sign-Up
As 2004 draws to a close, welcome back F5J pilots.
F5J USA eXtreme Rules:
1. Any electric sailplane can enter, to fly the following rounds, three 10 minute flights. One point per second of flight time, one point deducted for each second over the 10minute flight time. Maximum points possible 600. Round to the closest second.
2. The BIG ONE, motor run time is unlimited but substracted from the flight time. Example, 600 flight pts - 19 motor run pts = 581 total round pts.
Rules 1 and 2 are restated below :
The pilot will select three 10 minute flying windows, any motor run during this period of time will be subtracted at a rate of a point per second. Flight time will be one point per second (in 10 minutes 600pts minus motor run time points). Flight time exceeding the window will be one point for each second subtracted from flight time. ( This rule now reads closer to F3J rules from FAI )
3. Landing points to be measured from the center of the landing circle, to the closest part of the plane.
greater than 1m to 2m 27pts
greater than 2m to 3m 24pts
greater than 3m to 4m 21pts
greater than 4m to 5m 18pts
greater than 5m to 6m 15pts
continue to subtract 3pts for each additional meter.
4. Motor handicap: brushless 95%, brushed Cobalt 75%, Ferrite 45%, and Speed400 30%. Actual motor run rounded to the closest second. Then multiplied by the motor percentage. Round this calculated value to the closest 1/10th of a second.
5. A 48hr window will be provided to all pilots, in that 48hr window, they shall select a single dawn to dusk flight window.
6. Any type of battery cell is legal.
7. Temperature Factor to be added to total flight score:
-10C 14F you should be home in front of a fireplace.
This factor adds about 11pts per round for flying at freezing, or about what you lose in battery performance.
Timers still need two stopwatches, this was easier then I thought it would be. Work out a signal with the pilot, if he is going to restart the motor. (i.e. "restarting.......on...........off")
This is the simplest way of scoring I have been able to come up with.
Flight time - closest second
Motor run - closest second
Calculated motor run - closest 1/10th of a second
Landing points - see table Rule #3

I'm in with my "Rictro Rocket" 100" span, Endoplasma w/4.4:1 planetary GB, 14 X 9.5, 8 cell 1950nimi, AUW 52 oz. Here's a picture of it being launched at Neat Fair 2004 (Thursday-before all the rain).

Count me in too! Sorry I missed the November event (away on business). I'll be flying my Omega 1.8, B20-12L+GB+11x8+8 GP1100s. Let's hope for halfway decent weather on New Years day, as long as I can talk my timer into coming out with me in the cold, I'm all set.

Because someone didn't believe that sp400 could be competitve with a brushless system in this comp I've collated the winners from the 2004 series.
If I've made any major errors I'd appreciate having them corrected.

Actually, if anything, those results emphasize that experience and practice, not the cost and "fanciness" of your model and power system, are what wins competitions..

Actually I flew here the other day. But with only 3A charge on my spare charger the climb was not spectacular with -12 degrees celcius... You might have to give me more points for temperature... But I hope not!
