My old Ki-61 didn't flex at about 80 oz, but I did run a strip of glass top and bottom over the spars on that plane.

The 60" LEG's have a triple spar that is pretty strong, and I gave the wing a pretty heavy duty tape job. (No glass this time.)

I guess I'll find out how it goes when I fly it. I'll work my way up one plate at a time and watch for wing flex.

Dan: I'm looking forward to flying with you too Brah!

Did you find out what scale WWII pilot to use for a 60" Leg kit yet? I have a P-51 that I am building and I'm not sure what size to use.

Almost there! I've still got to detail the cockpit some and get the canopy masked and painted. It should be done in time for me to try to search out some kind of box to stuff it into for my trip.

Looking good Mr. Courtice, looking good. I like the front hatch. Did that on my foam 262 and it does come in handy. I used those rare earth magnets to hold the hatch in place...strong little magnets for their size!

I don't have the magnets yet, but that's what I'm planning too. It's sure nice to have a foamie with a nice big roomy radio compartment!

Did you buy them locally or MO? Where'd you get them?

Nauga,
shop locally, think randomly.

Radio Shack as did Brian. The ones I found were pretty tiny, but MAN are they strong little buggers. I bought two packs not realizing that there were two in each pack!...They were stuck together. Anyway, the hatch on that 262 now slides in about half way then the magnets take over and it snaps right in. I used them magnet to magnet, but they'll grab a piece of steel as well...thought about that AFTER I glued them in...

The only problem with the Radio Shack models is that they're like $3 or $4 for two tiny 1/8" magnets...that's a major ripoff compared to Lee Valley or some of the other sources, like WonderMagnet.com. But whatever works! After using them a couple times I just buy them in bulk

Magnet to magnet is probably the best for this type of application--nobody wants an in-flight hatch separation!

Good point Steve, Radio Shack is expensive...I just knew I could get them right away there. Knowing how well they work though, I think I'll buy in larger quantities...various sizes for various applications.

After checking out Steve's link, I went ahead and ordered a bunch of magnets. Definately way cheaper than Radio Shack. Thanks for the link Steve.

Radio Shack is still fine when you only need a couple magnets and you need them right away.
