Acro Bipe and RFFS-100

Well after looking at my Acro Bipe again I decided to try converting it for an RFFS-100 system. I figured what the hey at the most I'm gonna be out $8.99 + shipping. Anyway I think I may have to use 4 cells on this. Does the KP00 do alright with 4 cells? If not what motor (realitively small and can't pull much more then 1 amp) could I use?

Im glad your trying this one! This is the plane I thought I might try when I get my JR RFFS system. Others have said it may be to big, but the wing span is still in the working range, but the wieght might be more. I still need to check if the 8103 will change shift. Wonder if there military wind-ups would work as well?

I also thought a 17" RFFS mini zagi would be neat!

I dont see the prices & order forms on the slowfly page. Is there another page to order the RFFS system from?

Are you using Netscape? slowfly.com doesn't work with Netscape. Sorry but it's hard to build two websites to support two browsers and IE seems to be predominant so that was the one we shot for. The price for an RFFS-100 system including the actuators is $129.00 w/o actuators $99.00.

Hi Dan,

I also have an Acro Bipe coming just for a look-see.

I haven't compared the size to Dave Robelen's Pixel yet but initially i'm thinking the Acro Bipe is better off with conventional GWS components.

From the reports of the Pixel's performance, it looks like a great design, although we do need an ARF biplane for the RFFS100.

DU is at www.slowfly.com. Were you trying www.dynamicwebenterprises.com/slowfly maybe? I noticed that some people shortened the url to our vidoes at www.dynamicwebenterprises.com/slowfly/videos. If you did then you got a protype page I was designing for my dad and wasn't functional. I have since disabled the page so you won't get that anymore.

use a high voltage m20 from toytronics, same size as the kp00 but less thirsty. Or add a bit of weight and use an n20 kenway or similar.

I already have some acro bipes sitting around... very, very cool!!! the funny part is I noticed that although the wing has a thinner chord, the overall plane isn't that much smaller than the cannonshot! man, I love biplanes though...

kinda heavy and large 15"ws, 35g empty airframe weight, I really don't think a kp00 or m20 will cut it. is the hv m20 from toytx different from the echargers one? to make this plane fly right, it should have a nearly equal thrust to weight ratio imho. it's not a tigermoth, it has an aggressive profile.

wouldn't a geared kenway n20 go over 1 amp? is the esc in the rffs100 forgiving, or is 1 amp the absolute limit? I wouldn't want to prop it for 1A, it goes to 1.1A, and fries the rffs esc!

are you guys planning on r/e or a/e control? how are you joining the split elevators?

Acro bipe

I flew one of the acro bipes last year. I set it up with GWS flight package and n20 geared motor. It pulled about 1.1 amps and didn't fly that well. It was very pitch sensitive at speed. I used aileron and atatched the elevators together. I used a 5 cell 50 mah pack. It was pretty fast. I could never fix the pitch problem. I tryed everything. I still have one of the planes in a box. I bought a few of them while I was in Texas over Christmas. Oh well, Good luck. I have heard of others having good flights with them.

Yeah, that 35g empty airframe means it is probably too heavy for the RFFS100. My Micro Taxi (aka Lightning) was 40g RTF electric free-flight.

I'll try mine free flight first when it arrives just to see how it flies. It may not like the extra weight added for R/C. I think Jason over in the RC microFlight forum used a direct drive GWS motor. This would be a good step up in power and pitch speed from a geared N20 motor without adding much weight.

My slightly bigger Cannonshot (aka Kavanshot) flies great with GWS gear. I recently replaced my DX-A with an S1 for more RPMs with 7x6 prop. A superb indoor or low wind outdoor flyer.

We really need a Pixel ARF.

Acro Bipe

The setups that seem to work the best are the N20 geared (Indoor slowflyer) and the GWS direct (Indoor/outdoor rocket ship).

Maybe we could come up with something like a Pixel (since RC Microflight will soon own the copyright) and get someone like Mountain Models to laser cut them for us from 5 pound balsa. He has expressed some interest in cutting to order for someone's plans. Imagine how easy a micro plane that's all balsa would go together if laser cut? Kind of like the precision we see in the Road Kill kits. Marc, here's a home for your Stagger Wing DXF plans.

Hey Gordon,

If and when I do build up a database of RFFS plans, I plan to have them laser cut. I have had a few parts laser cut in the past for my Sailplanes. It would not cost much considdering the materials and small sizes of these models.

Hi Gordon,

It sounds like a great idea! If it can't be an ARF, then a laser kit is the next best thing for novice builders like me.

They shipped my Acro Bipe so I can take a look at it soon.

I really feel a smaller bipe like Dave R's Pixel is a better way to go.

Well I don't expect the Acro Bipe to be spunky at the weight it's going to come in at but like I said earlier. What the hey it only cost $8.99 Greg, be sure to take the ball bearing out of the front nose it sure does weigh a lot.
