24 foot wingspan fff beast -build thread

Alright-
I'm starting to build my biggest foam plane yet. I'm using pink fan fold foam. It has a plastic layer in the middle so you can peel it into 1/8th inch sheets.

Specs-
24 foot wingspan
fuselage length ~12 feet
weight- hopefully under 20 lbs
Essentially a full scale foam Cessna

Not sure about a motor yet, but it will be some kind of big brushless.

Here's a picture of the foam, peeled into 1/8th inch sheets.

More to come soon.

some more info on the wing- 24 foot span, 2 foot chord
= 48 square feet of wing area

It's a monster.

Sounds cool to me. What kind of airplane are you making? This has to be one of the largest RC airplane and certainly a foamy. You can ride in that airplane. Good luck with it.

Should be a great project. I would work out the power system and battery first, though...

It will end up looking like a supersize .40 trainer type-high wing, a little dihedral, rudder elevator control. I have a stack of 26 ribs cut out, they are 22 inches long and a little over 3 inches in the widest part. I'm just making up the design as I go... should be fun.

Good luck transporting it. Maybe you should build something a little smaller, like a 23ft plane.

What are you going to brace the wing with? I'd imagine that even with ribs and a built up construction, a 24 foot wingspan will get really floppy and saggy. Maybe a combination of carbon struts and flying wires?

Your going to need a lot of CDR motors

Seriously, what are you going to power it with?

stjobs- The wings are getting pretty strong. The spars are all glued up. It will have some sort of flying wires though.

intermision- I was seriously thinking about having a CD motor every 2 feet or so along the wing. It would sound sweet with 10-15 little 8 inch props going.

However, I think I'll try to build my own big brushless something...
It really doesn't need much power.
I have an 8 foot wingspan model of similar design flying on a single AXI 2808-24.

More pictures later today-
