Not on this plane, but I have had to reinforce others. The best thing I have found is 0.007 x 0.250 carbon fiber tape. The fan folded foam guys use it a lot. You use foam safe CA or very thin epoxy and glue it down to either side of what you want to reinforce, like balsa elevons or a fuse.

I have put it on the bottom of wings, on the inside of both sides of a GWS foam fuse, and on the top and bottom of ailerons. The FFF guys cut the 1/4" foam in two, glue the tape to the surface of the cut, and then glue the other piece to the other side of the tape. It makes FFF wings stiff without using a spar. You can also sister the tape to the sides of a 1/4" square balsa stick, like a GWS motor stick, to make it almost unbreakable.

This stuff is much lighter than small diameter CF rods and the part ends up much stiffer. CF just does NOT stretch, so the result is a sandwich that is incredibly rigid since one side or the other of the part tries to stretch and can't. All this at the cost of very little extra weight.

And before you ask.... don' buy it at your LHS, they charge about $10 for 3 feet. There is a guy on here on the Zone that sells 50 ft for $20. See http://www.rcgroups.com/forums/showt...hreadid=182442

No go right ahead, I don't mind

Some questions asked...why 16-25-4 and not 16-25-3...well, because that's all I had. I know the 7X7 Graupner Speed Prop is the right prop. I used the thinest bass-wood ply sold at the LHS for the top and bottom motor mount support...epoxied in place with pinch clamps and then glassed over.

Thanks for the comments guys. I guess I'm lucky my vert stabs didn't fold on it's maiden...gonna do something to stiffen them up.

FoamCrusher,
I'm curious. Did you try it with the APCe 6x4? I think when spinning high RPM's those thin electric props are the way to go. They're uh. . . thin. So they have very little displacement at the tips where it's moving the fastest. So you're not wasting tons of energy disturbing the air with a thicker airfoil. Plus, it's a step down from the 6.3

Very sharp looking plane Lex, nice job. I got the F27 about 3 months ago as my first plane and I am in the process of gutting the stock electronics. What servos, ecs, and Rx are you guys using? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

Mike.

Mike,

I'm using HS-60 SuperMicro Servos and the fit like a glove into the stock Stryker wing. I bought mine a ServoCity.com. I'm using a Berg 4 MicroStamp RX, CC Phx-25 ESC, and KoolFlight Systems U-BEC.

Wattage Cap into 16/15/4?

Hey All,

From past posts, you have seen that my setup houses a Mega 16/15/4....

What is the maximum amount of wattage the motor can take?

I plan on getting a custom 1.7:1 Gearbox and putting 4s TP 2100's in there...

Will the wattage cook anything? It will only pull 25amps at W.O.T. (which will be used sparingly with 50.6oz of thrust....

But will it cook the motor with Watts? Is that even possible to cook something with watts?

Thanks,

Hahahahaha! That is so funny cos I did the same thing! Glad to see I'm not the only one.

Sorry, back to the Stryker. I also have a stryker but just with the stock 480. Lots of fun that thing. But I have severe orientation problems with it. Half the time I don't know which way is up.

From their web site it shows 16 cells MAX (16 x 1.2v), and 25 amps MAX

480 watts. ah. . hooooooey!

On 12 cells that's 32 amps. Which is why many unicorn fliers are going 12 cells w/ 6x4. It comes out right at 32 amps!

So that is how much it can take? 480 watts? Is that correct (sorry for the 'needing to have it beaten across my forehead' approach)...but I am still new to all of this.

My best,
